Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Humo Maya. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Humo, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew it all my life. I always knew I wanted to create art all the time and be abundant with it, and not give my time to something else or a job that wouldn’t fill me creatively or spiritually just in exchange for money. So I started working on my art all the time and started manifesting getting paid for creating art for others. Whether it was doing tattoos, making and selling paintings, or body painting on people for NYC events.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been around tattoo shops and tattoo artists my whole life. So for me it was easy to start getting into the tattoo community. My brother was a tattoo artist since I was 14 years old so he was my inspiration to start tattooing. In the recent past I have become a disciplined painter. I run a tattoo shop/3DUV gallery in NYC, that I use as a studio to sell my paintings and clothing I have designed. In terms of solving problems for my clients I have helped them cover tattoos they are not happy with anymore, and transform their bodies and align with what they really want. What sets me apart from others is I create unique 3D UV art that connects with spiritual experiences that I have been able to portray by traveling to other dimensions. I don’t see art as a competition, in my view everyone is an artist, just not everyone has found their artistic gift yet. Art is infinite and I am just communicating my experiences through how I make music, what I paint and tattoo. I feel accomplished in having been able to set up a tattoo/UV gallery shop where clients can come in. This is just the beginning I plan on expanding my vision by opening up new locations in the near future.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that I get to share my cosmic artistic vision with the world. I get to be free and choose my own schedule. I don’t have to answer to anyone. I can travel whenever I want to and meet with all kinds of people to share my art. I get to really live.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Coming from another country and trying to start a new life where you don’t speak the language, you don’t know anyone, and have to do jobs you don’t like in order to survive. From that to now being free as an artist its something that takes a lot of work, endurance, and self-confidence. It is not an easy thing to do but if you really want to succeed and become an abundant artist you can do it with a powerful enough intent.
