Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hui Jing. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Hui, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I started my creative journey in graphic design, where I spent a lot of time working on branding and print design projects. Through these experiences, I became more involved in digital design, which eventually led me to user experience (UX) design. The transition felt natural because, while branding is about giving a product or brand its unique personality, UX design is about guiding users through a seamless and enjoyable journey with that product. I quickly realized that the ability to empathize with users and create intuitive design flows would be key to my success in this field.
User Experience Design combined my love for visual design with my passion for problem-solving. My background in branding has been especially added to another level, as it allows me to design not only user-friendly experiences but also interfaces that are visually appealing and emotionally resonant. Outside of work, I enjoy doodling, which helps me keep my creative energy flowing. This combination of technical skills and creative passion made me confident that this career was the right path for me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredible teams and brands, which have shaped my design approach. I started my professional journey at Claris, an Apple subsidiary, where I worked on their rebranding project. This experience taught me how to bring new life to an established brand through design. After that, I joined Microsoft Bing, where I was part of the coherence design and research team. At Bing, I focused on improving the search experience and contributed to Bing chat, working on creating a more intuitive and delightful chat experience.
Currently, I’m a Senior User Experience Designer at Amex GBT, where I help enhance the business travel field. My work here involves creating a seamless journey for users from browsing travel options to booking and post-purchase interactions. I’m especially proud of how we’ve been able to bring consistency and clarity to the user experience, which is critical in a complex product like travel management. I’m also investigating how AI can further enrich the business travel experience through conversation, as I believe AI holds great potential for transforming how we interact with products.
What sets me apart is my deep understanding of both the visual and functional aspects of design. I’m passionate about creating user experiences that not only solve problems but also add a sense of ease and delight to people’s lives. I believe in designing with empathy, always thinking about the end user and how to make their journey as smooth as possible. The combination of creativity and technical insight is what drives my work and is something I strive to bring to every project.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes, there are a couple of resources I wish I had discovered earlier in my creative journey, and they’ve become essential to my growth.
One of them is Meetup (www.meetup.com). It’s a platform I actively use now to find relevant UX events and meet people with similar backgrounds and interests. Whether you’re looking to attend talks, workshops, or casual meetups, it’s a great way to network and learn from others in the field. I’ve connected with many inspiring professionals who have helped me broaden my perspective on UX design.
Another valuable resource is ADP List. It’s a fantastic community where designers can share knowledge, mentor one another, and grow together. I’ve found it incredibly helpful for both learning and contributing, as it allows you to tap into a global network of experienced professionals. Whether you’re looking for advice or mentorship.
These platforms have enriched my journey, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking to expand their UX knowledge and connections.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to solve real-world problems through design while making people’s lives a bit easier, or even more delightful. Whether I’m designing a product flow or working on a visual interface, the process of understanding user needs and transforming that insight into something functional yet beautiful is incredibly fulfilling.
There’s also something deeply satisfying about seeing the impact of your work—when users interact with a product I’ve helped design, and it makes their journey smoother or more enjoyable, that’s a special kind of reward. As a creative, I love that I get to blend empathy with innovation, and that my designs can evoke a sense of ease or even delight in everyday tasks. It’s that connection between creativity and practical impact that keeps me passionate about what I do.
