We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hugo Cintron a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hugo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Well DJ’ing has always been my passion since the age of fourteen, but it wasn’t until 2004 when my close childhood friend and myself threw our hats into the ring (music business), and formed a house music production team by the name of The Club Punks. We were fairly successful, and had multiple tracks under our name. As for having me own radio show, it wasn’t until the pandemic struck. After a few different DJ’s, and myself did a online new years eve party, we caught the attention of Dancer Shades Vee, owner, and CEO of triplethreatfmradio.com. We were invited to join her family, and have been there ever since.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
If I told you that I started DJ’ing for the love of the music, I’d be lying. I’ve always loved music, but I really got into it because of all the money, and girls my buddy was getting, and for a teenager, that’s big motivation. It wan’t until I actually started doing parties, and clubs that I really fell in love with the notion that I can control the dance floor, and if I played the right song next, then I can have you dancing all night long. DJ’ing wasn’t an instant thing either, I spent countless hours in my parents basement practicing my craft, as well as countless hours, and hundreds of dollars at the record stores trying to find that one fire track that no one else had, or the one record that was going to make them throw their hands in the air and shout.
Back then, all we had was two turntables, a mixer, and maybe a tape deck. As the years go by, and new technology is available, it’s gone from that to CD mixers, to CDJ’s, to mixing controllers. Which I have to say, makes traveling with all this stuff a lot easier than it used to be. As much as I miss vinyl, I don’t miss lugging around five crates of records to every gig.
Nowadays, when I speak with clients, I know they have a lot on their plates, and it’s my job to assure them that I always have their best interest at hand, and the day of their wedding, that things will always go smooth, as well as the party of a lifetime. As for followers, and fans, there’s no grey area with me, your always going to get the best version of me, and my music.
I’m also proud to say that since my last interview, my business has been rapidly expanding, and I’ll be launching my own website in 2024. So keep a lookout, I’m might be in your city soon.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Two things. Knowing you had a good time listing to me on the radio, Whenever people write into the station or hit me up on my social to let me know that the really enjoyed my set, it just thrills me. Or that one roar of the crowd when you play the one right track. I would say that roar is like a drug to us DJ’s and there’s no better feeling.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
Call me old school, but I just don’t get it. You buy a funny little avatar to put on something in a world that doesn’t exist just so people know it’s yours? And for what? I’m sorry to all that enjoy that kind of stuff, hope you all make money doing it, but I have better things to spend my money, and time on.
