We recently connected with Hugo Brument Scuderi and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hugo, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’ve learned to dance by embracing a variety of approaches: freestyling to explore my own creativity, taking classes to build technique, observing others to pick up nuances, and watching performances to draw inspiration. Each of these methods has played a unique role in shaping my style and understanding of dance.
Looking back, I don’t believe there’s a way I could have sped up my learning process. Dance, for me, has always been tied to the rhythm of my passion—it moves as fast or as slow as my love for it allows. Every step forward has been guided by that inner drive, not by a rigid timeline.
In the end, the most important skill isn’t about perfecting technique or mastering choreography. It’s about cultivating a genuine love for dance. That love fuels the journey, making every stumble, breakthrough, and moment of joy worth it. Without it, the steps are just steps; with it, they become art.

Hugo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Hugo Brument Scuderi, a dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker originally from Paris, France. My passion for storytelling through movement has shaped my career, allowing me to explore the art of dance across stages, screens, and beyond. For me, dance is not just an art form but a powerful way to connect with others and express emotions that words cannot capture.
Based in New York City, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with many incredible choreographers on exciting creative projects. Drawing from my European roots and the vibrant energy of NYC’s dance scene, I strive to bring a unique perspective to everything I create.
Some of my favorite regional theater experiences include performing in *In the Heights*, *On Your Feet!*, and *West Side Story*. These productions gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in the storytelling of musical theater, where I could combine my love for dance with my passion for connecting with audiences. On the commercial side, I’ve worked as a dancer for Disney and served as assistant choreographer for Uniqlo, experiences that pushed me to grow artistically and professionally.
I’m proud to be the Associate Artistic Director of Misty Dance Theater (@misty_dance_theater), where I contribute to developing innovative productions and fostering a supportive community for emerging artists. My creative journey has also led me to filmmaking, where I merge my love for movement and visual storytelling.
My latest short film, *Depending on the Music*, is a project close to my heart. It celebrates the powerful intersection of music, dance, and human connection. Seeing it make its way through film festivals across the United States has been an incredibly rewarding experience.
Through all my work—on stage, behind the camera, or in the studio—I am committed to pushing boundaries and inspiring others through art. My journey is fueled by passion, curiosity, and an unwavering love for creating.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My artistic goal and vision are deeply rooted in my desire to create stories that resonate with people on a profound level. I strive to craft narratives that are emotionally rich, that ignite passion and spark curiosity.
What drives me most is the opportunity to share my unique voice, infusing every project with authenticity and meaning. This mission is at the heart of everything I do and remains a guiding force in my artistic journey.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the freedom to live within the boundless expanse of imagination.
