We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Huey Rawls a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Huey , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
This question gave me the opportunity to reflect and look back at what I’ve accomplished so far. I started out as an artist just trying to showcase my artwork using video as my canvas. That turned into painting pictures for other artists. Artists that had the talent but didn’t have the access or the budget to go to big name videographers or directors. I like to believe we created a legacy just as good or better. And these artists all became successful in some form or fashion and somehow my visual presentation played a part in that. In the end I want people to know that money wasn’t the only motivation. It was all out of love for the craft and the service of my brothers and my sisters. I never took on any project that I truly didn’t believe in.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a filmmaker and music video director out of Dallas, TX. I create colorful, eye catching videos for artists from across the country. I have a passion and love for what I do. I always tell people that content creation for your brand is probably one of the most important investments you can make in this digital age. I offer creative direction, videography, editing, script consultation…pretty much anything pre and post production. I’ve written and co-wrote award winning narrative works and I love helping upcoming artists and businesses.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I think with any business consistency and word of mouth is your biggest friend. If you get into this business to scam and take money with no intention of doing the work then you’re not going to last long. If you doing this because you’re inspired but you lack the discipline then you’re going to burn yourself out eventually. The most important factor is just doing good work and following through. The people you want and need to build with, will come to you. You just have to show you can do the work. The followers will come just do good work. The accolades will come just do the work.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect is turning a simple idea into reality and then releasing it upon the world.
