Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hubert Thevenin Jr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Hubert thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Early in your career, how did you think through the decision of whether to start your own firm or join an established firm?
Growing up, I was always fascinated by Accounting and Finance. I loved learning how money works and how financial decisions impact people’s lives. This passion began in high school, where I took my first Accounting and Finance classes, and it solidified my decision to pursue them as a college major. I knew from the start that this field would be my career path.
When I entered the workforce, I had the opportunity to work at a small accounting firm. Those first couple of years were invaluable; I gained hands-on experience with general accounting tasks and tax preparation. Later, I moved on to a larger firm, where I further developed my skills and broadened my knowledge base.
Starting my firm, Clutch Finance, wasn’t part of my initial plan. Initially, I envisioned focusing more on financial management services—helping people with budgeting and teaching financial literacy. The idea of launching a full-fledged accounting firm, including bookkeeping and tax preparation, seemed daunting, and to be honest, I wasn’t sure I wanted to take on such a big challenge.
However, after earning my CPA license, I saw a clear opportunity to make a real difference. People needed personalized help with their financial management, and I realized I had the skills and perspective to provide that. Despite my initial hesitation, I took the leap and established Clutch Finance. Looking back, it was absolutely the right decision. Those early days were a mix of excitement and nervous energy, but seeing the impact my work had on clients reinforced my choice to take that bold step.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Hubert Thevenin Jr., and I am a proud Haitian-American with a deep passion for finances and helping others build financial literacy. My journey began in high school, where I discovered a natural talent for math and a growing interest in Accounting and Finance. These early experiences led me to pursue a double major in Accounting and Finance in college, followed by earning my Master’s in Business Administration.
Before launching my business, Clutch Finance, in 2021, I worked at several companies, including two accounting firms. These roles allowed me to refine my skills and deepen my knowledge of the industry. Earning my Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license was a pivotal moment, not only in my career but also in my personal development. Although I never initially planned to start my own business, my passion for financial literacy and helping others manage their finances grew stronger over time. This passion ultimately inspired me to launch Clutch Finance.
Clutch Finance is an accounting firm dedicated to providing services in accounting and bookkeeping, tax preparation, and financial consulting. I primarily work with individuals and small business owners, focusing on personalized solutions tailored to their unique needs. What sets Clutch Finance apart is my commitment to truly understanding my clients’ goals—whether personal or business-related—and partnering with them to achieve those objectives.
What I am most proud of is the impact I’ve been able to make. Helping clients gain clarity and confidence in their financial decisions is incredibly rewarding. For me, it’s not just about numbers; it’s about empowering people and businesses to thrive.
At Clutch Finance, I want clients to know they have a partner who genuinely cares about their success and is ready to guide them through the complexities of financial management with expertise and compassion.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been building genuine relationships and prioritizing personalized service. In the financial industry, trust is everything. I’ve focused on creating an environment where clients feel heard, understood, and supported in achieving their financial goals. This personalized approach often leads to satisfied clients who not only return but also refer others to my services.
Word-of-mouth referrals have been a cornerstone of my growth. Many of my clients have shared their positive experiences with friends, family, and colleagues, which has naturally expanded my network. To support this, I ensure that every client interaction exceeds expectations by being approachable, responsive, and transparent.
Another effective strategy has been leveraging social media and digital platforms to share valuable financial tips and insights. By consistently providing free, actionable content, I’ve been able to establish credibility and attract people who are seeking trustworthy financial guidance. This visibility has helped me connect with a wider audience and showcase the value I bring as a CPA and financial consultant.
Lastly, I actively participate in community events and professional networks, which allows me to connect with individuals and small business owners who can benefit from my services. These face-to-face interactions often leave a lasting impression and help build meaningful connections.
Ultimately, my focus on building trust, delivering value, and maintaining a client-first approach has been key to growing Clutch Finance. It’s about being more than just a service provider—it’s about being a reliable partner in my clients’ financial journeys.
