We were lucky to catch up with Hubert Gitego recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hubert thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
Yes, I do believe my service is made to serve the underserved. My role as an artist in my profession is to make people’s visions come to life. I work with independent artists, small businesses, etc. There is one project I worked on with an independent artist, where we tried to recreate a large production visual, within their budget. It took a lot of planning, a lot of sacrifice, a lot of late nights, but the project was completed and exceeded their expectations. I take pride in these moments, taking care of the opportunities to help my community on my road to future bigger productions. My goal is to bring dreams to reality, and show people that the two are not far apart from each other.
Hubert, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Hubert, but many know me as Hue. I am a visual creative, with my discipline focusing on filmmaking. I picked up this skill set in college after changing my major from pre-med, a long process that led to me following my dream to be a future Renaissance man. Whenever I work with clients, I pitch to them or they pitch to me an idea. My job is to work within their means, and add in a creative perspective, to organize and execute a project, big or small. I am very proud of my ability to lead and execute. Working with me, you know you are working with a cultured individual, who takes pride in his name and work. I wish to create at the highest level, in order to bring people’s visions to reality for all to see.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As many know, filmmaking is not an easy disciplines. You must study, practice your craft, purchase expensive gear, be a multitasker, lead a team, etc. My resilience comes from my understanding that almost anything can be done. There was a moment in time where I did not own any gear. I would rent from my school, take the bus with all that gear, walk miles, just to scout locations. I remember days where I had to walk on foot to meet my clients, or even pitch to a community who has never seen my work before. As a creative entrepreneur, I learned to build discipline. It is not always gonna be a walk in the park, but you have to do what must be done in order to see things through.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal in the future is to go beyond just filmmaking. I want to be known as a creative connoisseur, someone who’s creative vision is respected throughout several disciplines. Whether it is design, music, or any other art form I wish to pursue. I want to be some known for their vision and execution, someone to trust when you want something done.
