We caught up with the brilliant and insightful HQTheGOAT a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
HQTheGOAT, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve ever worked would have to be my first beat tape to go on all major platforms “Play Me 4evr”. It was my first time doing a concept album and I had a lot of fun curating it. I wanted to make something very personal to give listeners an insight into my life. I had close friends and family call me and leave me voicemails and used them throughout the project. It was also a form of closure for me when I used my late grandmother’s voicemails. She was the first person to believe in my music. I wanted something to listen to when I felt down to remind me I why I love making music and expressing myself. So the title “Play Me 4evr” is really a mantra for me. I’ve immortalized some of my closest relationships and it’s cool to see how much others can relate to such a personal dynamic and mold it to their own lives.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m HQTheGOAT and I’m a producer. I started my career in music by interning at a studio in Altana. There I learned the ins and outs of the industry. Most artists come to me because I can make any genre and can make peoples ideas become reality on the spot. I can really make it all and I love the challenge of tackling a genre I haven’t done before. I work with singers, rappers, composers, you name it and give a quality product every time.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me it’s being able to express yourself without using words and others understand you. When a listener hears my song and they connect with it I feel like I’ve done my job as an artist. I also love when I hear a beat I made out somewhere and people are really enjoying it and vibing.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The biggest make or break moment for my career so far is when I first started my internship. The day before I had lost my job and the day of I got out of a six year relationship. I still showed up everyday ready to learn. If I would’ve gave in at the face of adversary I wouldn’t be where I’m at now. After that I learned to not make permanent choices off of temporary setbacks.
