We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Howard Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Howard below.
Howard, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission as a fashion designer / stylist / photographer/ image consultant is to always bring that magic & fire out of my client. I grew up around nothing but women all of my best friends are women and sometimes women are not able to see in themselves what I can or what the world can. Women have super powers , they are the most powerful force on the planet so if I can make every women I come in contact with know & feel that I feel like my mission is complete.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a fashion Designer & stylist based in Houston Tx. I make custom looks for women specializing in bodycon. I got into designing clothes just simply being inspired by the women closest to me. I’ve always had a eye for it and growing up in grade school I was known for my fashions. Post Covid I had to sit and think how can I make this dream a reality and I literally went to the store purchased my first sewing machine & all the things I thought I needed and just went for it. I had a young lady who was a seamstress teach me a lot as well.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Always stay authentic and true to you. As a fashion designer there’s so many of us out here with different creative styles. I believe that staying true to your aesthetic and what you bring different to the table is what makes your audience grow. I’m still growing & I’ve only been in this industry for a little of 3 years and I’ve been blessed to be in rooms and out in position to do things that I could only have dreamt of.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes, but it wasn’t a “hustle” for me it was a hobby. Then I realized once I put it out to my social media following that I was designing clothes people were actually interested….. VERY interested. It was one of those moments where I had to sit back and realize that I had a gift and I had influence. Now I’m getting so many inquiries and orders that I have to sometime turn down clients because of the overwhelming response.
