We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hope Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hope thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
I met a customer at one my events that needed a product to help clear her back acne. I was able to educate her on benefits of using goat milk soap which include relieving eczema, psoriasis, acne, provides moisture to the skin, and good for all skin types. Three days later she told me her back acne had cleared up and she was in love with our products. She was so impressed because she was not expecting a quick turn around with results.
She also had hyperpigmentation due to an allergic reaction to jewelry. After using our calendula oatmeal soap the dark spots began to fade.
I enjoy teaching and educating others about health and wellness. This experience was rewarding for me because our products were able to solve a problem for a customer. It also reiterated the value of knowing how your product or service will benefit a potential client or customer.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Initially I started gifting my friends and family with scented epsom salts in a mason jar. I noticed that women in general do not take time out for themselves to relax and unwind. I wanted to encourage women to prioritize their self care. Our first product was herbal bath / foot soaks made with pure magnesium flakes. We launched aromatherapy shower steamers six month later based on feedback from our audience. While showering the steamer dissolves releasing a lavender or eucalytpus scent and your shower becomes a giant diffuser. They are perfect if you have limited time. Two years later we have expanded our product line to include products that nourish the skin. Our soaps are goat milk based which provide moisture to the skin, relieves eczema, acne, and psoriasis. Our body oils are solar infused with lavender or calendula buds 6 – 8 weeks prior to packaging. Our oil infusions are formulated to provide relief from scarring, dry skin, and acne. Our best selling product is cuticle butter. The combination of oils and butter provide moisture to your nails which heals and prevent dry and cracked cuticles.
Our personal touch set us apart from other brands. Each order is packaged with a personalized handwritten note. Occasionally we send out samples and thank you cards to our clients. We receive emails and text thanking us for for thinking of them. At in person events we have established a customer base and they appreciate being greeted by name and a warm smile. Sometime our clients visit our booth to say hello or introduce their family to us.
I am most proud of the progress we have made in two years. There were alot of late nights, early mornings, research, products that didn’t sell like I thought they would, shipping mishaps, and overwhelm. My father is my business partner and he has been so encouraging to me. Recently we hired our first team member to assist with production and it has been a lifesaver. We are able to accomplish more and I can focus on other areas of the business. If I could rewind the clock I would have hired sooner.
The one thing we want our clients and followers to know is that they will feel the love when they open their package and read their note.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Initially our bath soaks were available in 4 ounce and 12 ounce size. During the pandemic the 12 ounce size sold very well. I noticed last year the 4 ounce size was selling and not the 12 ounce size. One of my clients was soaking twice a day in our bath soaks during the pandemic. We pivoted to offering the 4 oz size, along with rebranding. Since we have made that transition they have been selling well online and in person.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
We keep in touch with clients through email, SMS marketing, along with sending samples and thank you cards. We encourage customer feedback and provide exceptional customer service. Engaging with our followers on social media has allowed us to build and foster relationships with our clients and other businesses. By consistently providing high quality products our clients know what to expect when they shop in person with us or online.
We have polls on prior to launching a new product. Loyal customers enjoy being part of the decision making process because it makes them feel like their opinions matter. They feel as though they adding value to your brand, which they are. If we don’t listen to what our clients likes, needs and wants are we would not be sustainable.
