We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hope Alcocer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hope, appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
Back in 2010 (yes, I am dating myself here), I was preparing to graduate college with a degree in psychology. At the same time, I was battling the aftermath of a medical crisis that left me with cognitive impairments. It became clear that pursuing additional education to become a psychologist was near impossible and not fair to my mind or body.
I then decided to pivot and turned to my first love, writing. I had been writing in one way, shape, or form since I was five years old. I began seeking out writing and editing gigs via Craigslist, online classifieds, and freelance job boards (it was the wild west back then). Long story short, within a year, I was earning enough to pay for my own apartment, bills, etc.
It was also around this time that social media started to become prominent. I began offering social media posts based on the blogs and articles I was writing. This continued to propel me through the content and digital marketing pathway, shaping my career into what it is today.

Hope, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My career path has been anything but conventional, but it’s one that I’m immensely proud of.
Today, I am the founder of Wonder Woman Media LLC, a remote marketing firm based in New York City dedicated to empowering female founders and their companies. With nearly 14 years of experience in digital media and marketing, my work spans a wide range of services, including digital marketing, social media, analytics, public relations, and more. I offer flexible service packages tailored to the unique needs of women-owned businesses, always aiming to provide compelling storytelling through accessible marketing solutions.
What Sets Me Apart:
I believe in providing affordable, high-quality marketing services to women who are often underrepresented in the business world. Our suite of services is designed to be flexible and customizable, allowing clients to choose what works best for them. We offer weekly check-ins, email wrap-ups, and monthly reporting to ensure our clients are always informed and satisfied with our progress.
Proud Moments and Core Values:
One of my proudest moments was being featured in a Thrive Global article in January 2024, where I shared the impact my work has had on the world beyond my expectations. Additionally, my work in social data intelligence has spanned significant events such as election night 2020, multiple Super Bowls, the Grammys, and three different iPhone launches. These experiences have honed my skills and reinforced my passion for what I do.
Another aspect of my work that I cherish is my role as a motivational speaker focusing on female empowerment and mental health. This, combined with my experience in podcasting and authoring two published books, allows me to bring critical issues to life and inspire others.
My mission is to accelerate brands with creativity, curiosity, and dedication. Whether you are a Fortune 500 company, a startup, or a small business, I am committed to supercharging your revenue, reach, and influence.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Books and Podcasts:
One book that I return to often is Atomic Habits by James Clear. It offers practical strategies for forming good habits, breaking bad ones, and mastering the tiny behaviors that lead to remarkable results. Another book that I strive to live by both personally and professionally is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Its timeless wisdom provides a powerful code of conduct that can transform our lives and bring more love and happiness.
Additionally, I am a weekly listener of Mel Robbins’ podcast. Her insights and advice on overcoming challenges, boosting productivity, and maintaining a positive mindset have been invaluable.
Community and Networks:
Being part of various female entrepreneurial networks has profoundly impacted the way I do business, network, and continuously improve my skills. Virtual accountability sessions, where we set our goals and work simultaneously on or off-camera, have been particularly motivating. It’s like working out at the gym instead of at home—knowing others are working towards their goals alongside you can be incredibly inspiring.
I have found immense value in my memberships with Dreamers & Doers since 2018, and most recently, 10th House. These communities offer a wealth of resources, support, and opportunities for growth, helping me to stay motivated and informed.
My Philosophy:
I believe that finding your communities, whether online or in real life, is crucial. These networks provide not only support but also high-quality resources that can significantly enhance your entrepreneurial journey.
In essence, it has taken time, but I have concocted a cocktail of tools, networks, and resources that allow me to bring the best version of myself to each day. Surrounding myself with a supportive community, continuously learning, and applying practical strategies from influential resources have been key to my success and personal growth.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The Balance Between Action and Perfection
The lesson I had to unlearn is the idea encapsulated in phrases like “Just do it” or “Yesterday you said tomorrow.” While these mantras can be incredibly motivating when it comes to overcoming procrastination, they don’t always apply when striving for excellence in your professional work.
Great things take time and careful planning. While I am proud of my accomplishments and being entirely self-made, I have come to appreciate the value of perfecting something, especially when it’s going to be seen by the world, facing international critique, and becoming part of your professional legacy.
There’s a significant difference between putting something out there just for the sake of doing it and putting something out there as polished as you can make it, knowing that there will always be room for improvement. Nothing will ever be perfect, but that doesn’t mean you should release creative projects or professional work prematurely.
My backstory involves two self-published books. Both were written with great heart, but both could have benefited from more extensive editing and direction—particularly the first one. I had procrastinated for years, worried about what others would think. Eventually, I gained enough self-confidence to publish, but in hindsight, I know I published too soon. The first book was filled with errors, had a choppy flow, and contained mistakes that should have been caught.
What I did have was a dynamic PR and marketing strategy. I created my own strategy and spearheaded my own book tours. Despite the imperfections, the books did extremely well, propelling me across the US for appearances and boosting my career significantly. This experience certainly aided in my professional success, but it also taught me the importance of balancing action with the pursuit of quality.
In conclusion, while it’s crucial to take action and not let fear paralyze you, it’s equally important to ensure that what you put out into the world is the best it can be. This balance is essential for creating work that you can be truly proud of and that stands the test of time.
