We recently connected with Hollyn Tunson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hollyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey! If you are just getting to know me, my name is Hollyn. I am an only child, and I looooove to dance. I started dance early at the age of 3, eventually transitioning into the competition dance world at the age of 6. Growing up I moved quite often to different states and the different culture I would experience heavily impacted me as a dance artist. Around the age of 13 I realized commercial dance is a real, professional career and tangible for me. I knew instantly I wanted to go after it. Thinking about all the possibilities, I felt internal fulfillment out of each one. That’s how I knew it was deeper. When living in Brooklyn I began to branch out and take open classes, join commercial teams, and explore dance as an independent artist while still competing with my studio. I gained mentorship and started to gain a sense of direction. My two worlds were starting to collide and that’s when I knew I would eventually have to make a decision. For the rest of my time being in New York I disciplined myself through always working hard and showing up for my team while simultaneously pursuing other opportunities. Soon after when I was 17, my heart was starting to reside more in the industry dance environments I was in and I officially stepped away from competing. I am very proud of this transition because it was a scary one! It was an unclear road and all I knew is I wanted to step in 100% , but had no clue what it would necessarily look like. In under a year from taking that leap I was signed to an agency and felt so certain I did the right thing!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is actively outdoing myself. Proving that I can go further. Whether that is through dance and new heights or just new enlightened beliefs that serve me better than my previous ones. I am ever evolving.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Right now, the mission that drives my creative journey is persistence. You will never reach your goal if you submit to your circumstance. The benefit of persistence is the achievement of goals. It’s always so rewarding to reflect and see the things that were in store because I refused to give up!
