Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Holly May. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Holly, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
The ability to learn suffering and endure hard times… I think we under value moments of monotony; difficulty, boredom, loneliness. On the other side of these experiences are often break throughs; moments in time where we can see life through a clearer lens. It’s almost as though you have to go low, to go high. You have to feel what it’s like to be frazzled to truly appreciate peace. You have to get writers block to have that creative break through. It’s all apart of life’s beautifully chaotic experience. That’s success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I first picked up a camera as a Wedding Photographers assistant. Thrown into the job with little experience, I became immediately obsessed with the idea of being able to capture people in their raw moments. It was love at first sight – quite literally.
Now, 7 years on, I am a freelance analogue & digital photographer that has honed experience in fashion and portraiture. I now specialise in personal branding and lifestyle photography using a photojournalistic approach to create a comfortable and authentic environment to work with my subjects & clients.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The best [hardest] moment in my life was learning to not care about what others think and live for yourself. It’s easy to get caught up in what others want you to do. Prior to being a freelancer I was stuck in a 9-5 job that was not only unfulfilling but indeed soul crushing. I was nervous about the prospect of leaving the security and especially what the people around me would think pursuing a career as a ‘creative.’ Thoughts running through my head:
“Would they take me seriously?”
“What if…”
“But what about…?”
So many if, but’s and maybe’s that I thought I have nothing to lose. So I jumped. And honestly, I haven’t looked back.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice
I still don’t understand them? ;)
