We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Holly Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Holly, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Thirty one years ago I was pregnant and homeless and in the middle of a very violent domestic violent situation. It took a lot of courage to finally leave that situation with nothing. I had to go into the homeless shelter where I was able to stay for 72 hours in hopes of getting assistance. Due to the fact that I was employed I made seven dollars and eleven cents too much to be able to qualify for any benefits. Therefore I struggled to be able to find a place or stay where I was at due to the time running out. While I was homeless I lived under bridges and intense or camps until I was able to save enough money to get a new place. It inspired me to stop judging people and start giving back to the community and I volunteered for many entities over the years. In twenty eighteen I decided to do a project where I hung ziploc bags full of items on fences for the community. It was very well received and a story of it went viral. That labor of love has turned into a non profit and we have been in business almost five years giving back to the communities in twenty eight different states. We are almost at our one millionth bag and looking forward to expanding through all fifty states by the end of twenty twenty four.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We provide non perishable food items as well as hygiene products on a year round basis. We also have clothing and shoes when it is available as well as school supplies. During the holidays we adopt families with meals for thanksgiving and christmas. We also last year adopted daycares and nursing homes to do projects with and give gifts for the holidays.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
All of the things that we do are from various people who donate. Believe it or not even through all of the adversity that goes on in the world on a daily basis. There are amazing kind hearted people who just want to heal the world. We rely on kindness and donations for us to be able to continue doing the walls.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I feel like the whole inception of this project is. A testimony to where I was and how far that I have come with the kindness of amazing people. We are so thankful for our volunteers and donors. Without these wonderful people we would not be able to do as much as we do.
