We were lucky to catch up with Holly Fitez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Holly, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
100% happier as a business owner. im a mom of 2 young daughters, i became a stay at home mom right before my eldest turned a year old and was pregnant with my youngest daughter. i absolutely loved working, i enjoyed my career as a scan coordinator for grocery stores but it was a very needy career. i was essentially on call all the time and finding the balance between being a mom and the best employee i could be, i couldn’t find. i am the kind of person that has to be 100% all in, in everything i do or i feel like i’m failing someone. the mom guilt, which is so extremely real, became overwhelming and i had to make a choice. within months of becoming a stay at home mom, my wheels started turning. i had a degree in business and worked for a small business so i decided i was going to find my passion and start my own business. i have found myself outside of being a mom but still being able to be there for my daughters whenever they need me without a second thought. being a small business owner has had many hardships but it has also allowed me the freedom to step back whenever needed to be there for my family. i will forever be grateful for that.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
glitter dipped sips was actually originally girlmomtherapy boutique! which was officially opened in 2017.
the business was started around creating custom handmade glitter tumblers. i was bringing my customers ideas to life on a tumbler they could use everyday! eventually i decided to offer ready to ship tumblers. tumblers that i created and we’re completely, ready to go for customers. there was no longer a long turnaround time my customers had to wait for their items. the business started in a facebook group with friends and family, grew over to etsy, and then we designed our own website, which is where we can be found now.
around 2020 i had bounced the idea around of expanding the business and becoming a glitter supplier too. glitter was the root of the entire business. it’s essentially how i began making tumblers to start with. i just love glitter. i went back and forth for awhile with the idea because it was such an expensive investment and to be completely honest i had no idea what i was doing or needed to be done to start. in 2021 after a ton of research and samples from a ton of glitter suppliers i just did it. you know how they say when you know you know, it was kind of like that for the glitter business. i had just gotten another round of samples and something just came over me telling me to stop hesitating and do it. so i did, within the hour i had ordered my start up inventory and said we’re all in now!
the glitter business is my baby right now, most of my focus goes into building that side of the business, as a tumbler maker i knew there was a need for unique, high quality glitter that was affordable. i wanted to be that. i also wanted to create a space in the tumbler community where makers could come and bond over the craft and what better way to do that than with glitter, something that we all have a love for.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
social media is always changing but the one thing that doesn’t change is yourself. i built my social media presence on myself. typically being a small business owner, you’re the face of your business. i took it another step up and became the brand. i am who i am and sharing that on social media attracts your tribe. by sharing myself, other makers could relate and that’s how i started building real relationships with other crafters in my niche.

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
i have a manufacture for our glitter. i spent months interviewing suppliers and testing their products. the main things i was looking for was a manufacture that mimicked my core values. honesty, great customer service, communication, and fast shipping. when i found a manufacture that showed those traits, i went with them and i’ve had the same supplier since i opened the glitter business.
