Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Holly Feldt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Holly, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I can’t remember a time that I didn’t want to pursue a creative career. I started crafting and creating at a very young age. I remember sitting at the dining room table with my mom from a very young age creating all the fun and beautiful things. The urge to do that for a living never really ended.
I went to college with a desire to become and Art/Creative Director at a well known magazine and fast forward 14 years I’m a Jr. Art Director, working on catalogs and digital marketing for Weissman Theatrical Supplies. But that’s not why you’re here….
The wedding stationery journey has been a bit different, and much less planned. In 2018 I got engaged, and after diving into budget and my very expensive taste I noticed I would have to DIY most of my wedding, including the invitations. I knew I had the background and the ability to do so, so I just went for it and it was my favorite part of the entire process.
Right after I got married Covid hit, everything shut down and I temporarily lost my job. My mental health during that time, along with everyone else was not the best, so I did what I’ve always known to help me… I dove back into some artistic hobbies. I started creating suites, and building a brand, and it’s only gone up from there.
Holly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For the last 4 years I have been running a boutique style wedding stationery business out of my home. I offer all kinds of event stationery, but I specialize in custom wedding suites. From Save the Dates to day of decor, I truly pride myself on being a resource and asset to my couples. I don’t just create their wedding invitations… I help plan and sometimes counsel… we all know how stressful a wedding can be. When I got married every little thing cost extra and had a premium charge simply because the service was for a wedding instead of another event.. I hated that. So I try my hardest to be transparent and fair when it comes to pricing and the service I provide.
I have been trying to expand my services provided and have recently started offering Letter Press, which has been so fun to explore, and I hope to continue exploring new techniques as my clients request them.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Hands down, my daughter. I recently became a mother and wow has that changed my perspective. I honestly thought after having her I’d slow down on this venture… but it’s been the complete opposite. I strive to do better for her, it seems cliche, but I truly feel like she has inspired me more than anything. I need her to have strong, independent and hard working female role models in her life, so why not start with me.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
A blog – The Cultivated Creative, by Heather O’Brien. I had no entrepreneurial experience, and no formal education when it came to the wedding industry or event coordination at all. I have learned so much in the ways of running my business, perfecting my processes and paper work. All the things most creatives wish did not have to exist…. this blog has made that journey much easier for me.
