We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Holly & Andrew. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Holly & Andrew below.
Holly & Andrew, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
Scaling is HARD. To be perfectly honest, we wouldn’t say we’ve scaled yet. We’re still a very small channel and it can be daunting work, especially when you see other channels you look up to growing with seeming ease.
But the key is persistence. In our world, we have to continue to focus on the why behind what we do. We make travel vlogs because they’re a fun way to capture our trips, watch them again in the future and remember the good times we had. If we weren’t building this because we loved it, would it really be worth it? (Something to ask yourself!)
We’ve also had several pivots along the way. Trying to find your niche is again key to success. Originally we started out as a cruise vlog channel. We quickly realized we didn’t go on enough cruises each year to make weekly content. Then the pandemic hit and we bought an RV, so we became a remote working RV life channel. We’ve since sold our RV and are finally getting back into international travel, but we feel that sometimes our content can feel all over the place. Finding the right strategy and building an overarching story can be challenging when a small business pivots too often.
Find your thing and stick with it. Be persistent! Those would be our biggest pieces of advice.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We’re YouTube Travel Vloggers! It’s an incredible job (or side-job rather) because it gives us an opportunity to literally go out and see the world. But we are also currently juggling two full-time jobs while we fit traveling and editing into our busy schedules. Our channel documents our crazy fun journey, the ups and downs and shares our experiences with the world.
Oh and did I mention we also bring our dog Waffles along on a lot of our adventures?! She makes a cameo quite often :)
How did you build your audience on social media?
Find a mentor. It really helps if you have someone who has done it before who can point you in the right direction and offer advice along what will surely be a difficult and thankless journey.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
We’ve found that being authentic and not focusing on ‘what everyone else is doing’ has been the best strategy for growth. A side benefit of this is that it’s actually a whole lot easier. As vloggers, it can be easy to start comparing yourself to other channels and ask if you should be more like so and so or try clickbait thumbnail like this other person. The answer is usually no. Do what is right for you and people will see that authenticity. Authenticity is infectious and people will follow you because of it.
