Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Holli Jacobsen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Holli, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Preparation + Opportunity = Success
I heard that somewhere and it resonated with me. I’ve prepared myself by getting my education. I pursued a 4 year B.S degree from a CIDA accredited university in Interior Design. I’ve since started my own residential firm and have taken advantage of every design opportunity that has come my way thus far. So far I have seen great success and my business is growing by leaps and bounds. It’s hard to keep up!
Risk is an inherent part of success. You have to be willing to fail, willing to do things that scare you, and willing to get out of your comfort zone. I love this quote:: “Risk is the due payment of success.”

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Upon graduation from Weber State University with my interior design degree, I set out to start my own residential interior design business. I was the only one in my graduating class who took this route, which was scary and daunting. But I knew I had the design skills, the work ethic, and the tenacity to figure out what I didn’t know. It was a leap of faith but I decided to take the jump and trust the journey!
What sets me apart in my industry is I am detail oriented and believe in doing things right the first time around. I work hard to meet and exceed my clients expectations.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best source for new clients is client referrals and repeat clients! I find reassurance in that fact it indicates my clients are happy with my services if they’re referring me to others. Or even better, hiring me a second time or third time for additional projects.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I’m always looking to learn from others in the industry who’ve been where I’m at and who are where I eventually want to be. I often purchase Masterclasses and listen to podcasts. I even hired an industry mentor to help me along my way. My colleagues and I recently organized a biweekly meeting with a small group of designers to discuss failures, successes, and tips. We all want to learn from one another and grow together!
