We recently connected with Hoda Hakimjavadi and have shared our conversation below.
Hoda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was your school or training experience like? Share an anecdote or two that you feel illustrate important aspects or the overall nature of your schooling/training experience.
Throughout my 4 years of graduate school and 1 year of clinical rotations I had the privilege of working with many great dietitians. The common theme of what I was taught came back to making sure we provide patients with research based nutrition therapy. Today, that really resonates with me given how many fad diets I hear of on the daily. If it’s no backed my research in practice I don’t subscribe to it.
Hoda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up in southern California and received my Bachelor’s degree from UCLA. I then obtained a four-year graduate degree in Nutrition & Dietetics at California State University, Northridge. I completed my degree as a Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist after conducting my clinical rotations at Cedars Sinai Hospital.
Throughout my training and current work, I seek to provide patients with optimal and research-based nutrition therapy. I believe heavily in the power of food and nutrition slowing the progression of and preventing disease. It has been a passion of mine to help others in this manner. I utilize my Instagram page @HealthyByHoda to provide the general population with real nutrition information.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I would definitely choose the same profession. My work feels like a hobby everyday because I get to help others in a way that I live and practice in my daily life.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Willing to always learn is a very important attribute in the field of nutrition. Science and human health are constantly evolving and more research is being out into human nutrition more than ever before. Anyone in the profession has to continue to want to learn with the ever growling field.
