We recently connected with Hoami Tran and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hoami, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
The shared passion for capturing special moments and preserving memories runs through generations in my family, from my grandpa to my dad and now to me. This collective love sparked my fondness for photography.
However, there’s a difference between capturing everyday moments and venturing into professional photography. It took a lot of practice and free photoshoots (!!) to learn and gain a deep understanding of the camera’s technical aspects, knowing its functions, and capabilities, and aligning with my style. Applying this knowledge to subjects, especially when aiming for spontaneous emotions and vibrant results, was another level of challenge!
From practicing effective communication to ensure subjects feel at ease, allowing for the capture of raw emotions, lighting, camera settings, and setting the stage—each photoshoot is a multitasking experience!
I can’t emphasize enough how practicing is pivotal in honing photography skills. Even after more than 10 years in the industry, I still make sure to practice regularly. As a photography artist, creativity keeps changing, and it’s important to keep adapting and practicing with a mindset that embraces this constant transformation. By doing this, it has made me better and more at ease over time (though I still get a bit nervous sometimes!). Now, I value the confidence and natural ability I’ve developed, allowing me to capture genuine moments for my clients.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I specialize in professional photography, with a focus on proposals, engagements, lifestyle, family, and weddings. My distinctive style revolves around capturing raw, natural, beautiful, and fun moments. I feel a deep connection with my clientele, as each person I photograph possesses a beautiful, positive, and humorous soul that I am truly grateful for. While I bring this approach to all my shoots, my recent concentration in the proposal industry has been particularly fulfilling. I cherish every aspect, from initial consultations and meticulous planning to the joy of creating that magical element of surprise.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Supporting artists, creatives, and a thriving creative ecosystem is crucial for fostering cultural richness and innovation. Some ideas can include:
Public Engagement – Encourage public participation in the arts through events, festivals, and community programs.
Social Media Engagement – this is such an impactful tool for artists. Simple engagements such as liking a photo, sharing, and referencing your artists are simple day-to-day acts that make a huge impact in showcasing various creative artists.
Education and awareness – Promote arts education at all levels to nurture creativity from a young age.
There are so many more ways from promoting diversity in the arts by supporting artists from different backgrounds to creating networking spaces for artists to connect. These avenues are just some of the ways that society can contribute to creating a thriving creative ecosystem that not only supports artists financially but also fosters a culture that values and embraces the arts in all its forms.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
So hard to pinpoint just one rewarding thing! Being a photographer allows the opportunity to witness and capture authentic emotions, whether that be of a couple in love, a family celebrating a new milestone, or being the first to capture that special proposal, they are all immensely rewarding. I have the opportunity to freeze those precious moments in time and provide my clients with lasting memories.
Receiving positive feedback from clients who are thrilled with the results of their photoshoots can be one other rewarding aspect. Knowing that your work has made a meaningful impact and experience on someone’s life is gratifying.
Ultimately, the most rewarding part of being a photographer often comes from the ability to connect with people, tell their love stories through images, and contribute to the joyous moments they are creating.
