We were lucky to catch up with Hitori recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hitori, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
If I could go back in time I definitely would have started learning the business side of the music industry sooner. I began recording vocals when I was 17, and put out my first song on SoundCloud at age 19. It was not until I reached 22 that I truly started to understand the methodologies behind promotion, revenue growth, and distribution agreements. There were plenty of growing pains in the beginning from not understanding what equipment to record with, placing my songs on SoundCloud which do not have the same organic discovery reach as Apple Music or Spotify. If I started to understand the business behind music, I would have accumulated a substantially larger listener base than I have know, and would be making money from the songs that I released all those prior.
Hitori, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Hitori and I am a singer/songwriter from Kansas City, Missouri.
My musical mission is to create songs that envelop the listeners in cascades of sound. I’ve always been musical; grew up playing the Alto and Baritone saxophones which lead to me singing on my best friend’s beats. I have been making music since 2016 and have been blessed to perform live and share my craft with others.
I have a unique sound that dances between rap and R&B and am excited to share my new album, Monsters of My Own Creation, in the summer of 2025 with my listeners. I explore a few genres, but mostly stick to my trance r&b sound.
I am proud of my last album, Hitman, which is my most successful tape yet. My most successful solo song, Silicone, has 11K Spotify streams and counting.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew about the music distribution service Distrokid. This service revolutionized the way I approached releasing music. Not only are you able to add in your songs, lyrics, and cover art in one place, it embeds promotional tools within its site to assist artists in online advertising. With this service I am able to get my music on e-mail chains, promotional playlists, and on Shazam, which is incredibly helpful.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to reach over 100,000 streams on a single album. Once I reach this milestone I would be satisfied with where I am. To reach this goal I have to hunker down on all forms of promotion, including organic playlisting, social media advertisements, word of mouth introductions and more interviews, much like this one for CanvasRebel!
