We recently connected with Hitman Benny and have shared our conversation below.
Hitman, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
Honestly, things just gradually fell into place over time until it finally made sense. It was kind of a full circle moment really. I started doing street photography out of boredom and a need to be creative again. I was already running with the name Hitman Benny simply because I enjoyed shooting people, and thought it would deter a certain type of client from hiring me. Ironically, when I started doing more commercial work for restaurants, barbershops, small businesses, and various events, I kept noticing that the content that actually stopped people mid-scroll was never really about the product. It was always about the person behind it. The human story.
But social media wants things fast and punchy, and these stories I was encountering deserved more than that. So I started asking myself.. what if I didn’t have to choose? What if I could make something that felt like a short film, but fit inside a reel format?
The moment I knew it was worth chasing was when I posted one of my first storytelling videos and started getting messages from people who had nothing to do with that industry. A dancer. An MMA fighter. Someone starting their own thing. All pretty much saying the same thing: “This made me feel something.” That was it for me.
I realized that when you strip away the industry and just focus on the pursuit, the grind, the doubt, the passion. That resonates with everybody on a certain level. A chef, a barber and an MMA fighter are living completely different lives, but the fire behind the eyes is the exact same. I felt like I was in a unique position to capture that. Because I’m a creative chasing something too. I know what that feels like.

Hitman, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Benny. Some people know me as my personal brand, Hitman Benny. I’m a videographer and photographer based in Savannah, Georgia, with a special interest in film-inspired visuals focused on storytelling. (but not always)
I didn’t come up through film school or land some internship at a production company. I’ve just always been obsessively curious, teaching myself, and saying yes to opportunities before I felt ready.
I’ve always been drawn to visual storytelling, but on the commercial side.. I work with restaurants, barbershops, real estate agents, event brands, marine companies, any small businesses and entrepreneurs who need content that actually does something. I shoot and edit branded reels, promotional videos, photo packages, and social media content built specifically for the platforms people are actually using. I understand the difference between something that looks good and something that performs. But I try to deliver both.
The work I’m most personally invested in right now is my documentary-style storytelling reels. Short-form, cinematic videos that spotlight business owners, creatives, and entrepreneurs. Just letting them tell their story in their own words, backed by visuals that actually match the weight of what they’re saying. No fluff. No generic “about us” energy, or salesman promotional material. Just real people, real pursuits, and the kind of honesty that makes other people stop and pay attention.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Honestly, just word of mouth. Every client I have has come through organic growth. No paid ads, no formal outreach or actual marketing plan. Just people watching, sharing it, and telling someone else about it.
I actually take pride in that. It means the work is doing the talking. When someone hires you because a person they trust vouched for you, that’s a different kind of credibility than an ad can buy.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Getting to help someone become seen. Being the person who gets to tell someone else’s story. That’s a privilege I don’t take lightly.
A lot of the time I’m drawn to projects where I recognize something in the subject. Something that mirrors what I’ve felt or been through myself. So in those moments it stops being one-sided. I’m helping them be seen, but honestly, it feels like I’m being seen too. It’s very therapeutic in a way for me.
