Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hillary Reese. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Hillary thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I went to Nashville was a definite eye opener when it came to careers in the music industry. I had no clue that there were so many people who were able to use their talents and actually make money from that. The first time I walked into a studio, I saw producers, engineers, and musicians, and I realized that they all were making a living doing this, so maybe I could.
Hillary , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a sixteen year old country singer from Mississippi who kind of fell into the music business. I started my career by putting cover videos on Facebook. Those videos eventually lead me to Nashville. I think the thing that sets me apart and gave people interest in me through those videos was my deeper and darker tone that can feel more sultry and deep. I’m the most proud of my music and how I’ve stayed authentic to what I want. Being authentic and real in the music industry can be a challenge because you have so many opinions thrown at you, but I’ve always been genuine in who I am.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect within my career is seeing how people can relate to my music and how it affects their lives. As artists, we try to be as vulnerable as possible within our craft, so seeing people resonate with that vulnerability is really amazing.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I would say to stick to yourself and your brand. There is not another you, so people are going to find you interesting and unique if you’re just genuine. Social media can be such a rollercoaster, so make sure you’re not defining your identity in it, instead define your identity within yourself.
