Today we’d like to introduce you to Hillary Hawkins.

Hi Hillary, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Glory to God, right now I am a Singer Songwriter on the TV Show “Gospel Music”! My prayer song “Protect” aired on the CW, CBS, ABC & FOX as a part of “Gospel Music” over the summer and is now available on the new BadamiTV Channel! How did I get there? By God’s grace! 

I first learned of BadamiTV through my late Uncle James H. Cofer III. He suggested I submit my short film “Stuck For A Reason” to BadamiTV’s “African American Short Films” and by the grace of God it was selected. It was such a blessing to see a project for which I am actress, screenwriter and producer make it on TV! It aired on ABC, CBS, NBC & FOX!

Now to have my “Protect” music video selected for their other TV Special “Gospel Music” feels like blessings upon blessings! My family and I had a watch party back in July when it was on ABC Ch 7 in NY / NJ. So thankful for the show bringing my family together. Having my mom, dad, big brother and 96-year-old grandmother who is also featured in the video under the same roof for something that honestly feels and felt like one of the most special moments in my life means a lot. So grateful.

I was a child actor, so have been on TV before. I was the singing voice of Vanessa on Nickelodeon’s “Gullah Gullah Island”, Kate on Nickelodeon’s “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”, introduced cartoons such as “Dora The Explorer” and “Bob The Builder” on TV everyday as Robyn, Host of Nick Jr., and also played the part of Keisha on “New York Undercover”, just to name a few.

But there is something extra special about Kingdom Work. That’s what I consider “Protect” and that’s what I consider “Gospel Music.” To be able to use our God given talents for the Lord, to be able to open ourselves up to be used by the Holy Spirit and to actually have a platform such as BadamiTV that supports positive, spiritual programming is such a blessing. Thanks God! I AM thankful for Frank Badami, Lisha Rigney and everyone at BadamiTV!

I am also thankful for every voice teacher I’ve ever had: Seth Riggs, Charles Mandracchia, Roger Love, Clem Moorman, Evelyn Halus, Bernice Elkins, Bob Marks, Ann Maggs and more! 

And of course I am very blessed that God has given me awesome parents that from a very young age did everything humanly possible, short of sin, to help me pursue my dreams. Mom would fly with me back and forth from New Jersey to California for pilot season each year and dad would pay for it all! Thanks mom and dad! I love you!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

In short, I think I might actually be thankful for the challenges cause they are what have helped me to reach my highest potential. The challenges are what inspired me to spread my wings and evolve from actress/singer to screenwriter/songwriter/producer. No need to wait, when we can create!

While it’s a blessing to be a working actress, singer and entertainer, my true special power is that I AM a creator!

I would like to thank my dear friend James Beljour who encouraged me at a very young age saying, “You gotta do your own thing, Hill. We’ve gotta do our own thing!” These words have stuck with me for life. I wish I had listened to him sooner! But thankfully I finally listened.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In addition to being an award winning actress / screenwriter / producer and singer songwriter, I’m also a 3X Voice Arts Awards nominated Voice Actress. I’ve had the pleasure and honor of doing voiceovers for the American Red Cross, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committe, UNICEF, World Health Organization, Cartoon Network Studios, Disney, Text4Baby, DCFS, New York State of Health, World Bank, Choices Women’s Medical Center, Transparency International, Verizon, AT&T, Tamagotchi and more!

What sets me apart is that I can voice act and sing in a wide variety of voice ages (child, teen & young adult), accents (American, African, Caribbean, British) and even languages. While my primary languages are English and Spanish, people are also somehow finding me and reaching out to me with opportunities in Italian, French and more. I love to sing in Brazilian Portuguese and also speak some Japanese and Swahili. Being a multilingual voice actress / singer is a lot of fun and I love being able to reach people all over the world with Love!
