Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hilary Dalton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Hilary Dalton thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I completed my periodontist degree after 11 years schooling and training. I worked for several years for a few corporate dental practices in Houston and Tampa. It was frustrating sometimes bouncing through 13 offices over a month. I always believed there was a different way to practice dentistry. I wanted to create a relaxing fun environment that is painless, happy, and fun. Southwest Airlines mottos always inspired my imagination to create an office around their theme of LOVE. In 2011, it was time to start my own office. It was PINK colors, relaxed ambience, and fun! Eleven years later it still is a place where everyone can be themselves and enjoy establishing healthy mouth. Our adult patients get pink candy and a prize as they walk out of their appointment. Lots of our patients wear pink accessories or clothing. I love it! I had no idea we were starting a brand at Dalton Dental. #followthepink #theheeldifference #PinkTastic Our #Pink color is not just a color, but a POSITIVE OG Attitude to INSPIRE Others!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am actually a specialist dentist, periodontist, which is a specialist of gum and bone and implant surgery. I have evolved over the years into a specialized boutique style practice. We incorporate lasers and advanced technology to give incredible painfree results. We have even evolved further as we establish a healthy gum and bone, the foundation of mouth, and then place aesthetic precision veneers. #SmileHOT We noticed our patients becoming more happy in life and taking their health and lives to the next level. As our patients leveled up, we realized the impact of our work which empowered others with unstoppable confidence. You can be anything and the best version of you. Be Confident!
Can you open up about how you managed the initial funding?
Launching a new practice had many challenges. My three children were all under the age of 10. I was still paying off my student loans from dental school. It was soon after the 2008 financial crisis and finding financing was challenging. It was a humbling experience. “Failure is the mother of all successes”, as stated by Pitbull and it’s true. I was determined to have my own practice. My family pulled together our savings and I was able to secure financing. Boom, I had my started my own practice on July 1st, 2011. It was a dream come true! I still had a long journey of learning the art of ownership and business skills that comes with being a successful boss babe. This has taken me 11 years – We are even more motivated today to meet new patients!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
To venture into being an owner of a business, you have to overcome any fears. In other words face every fear and go forward or rise above it. It is lots of persistent hard work, and a continually learning process. I am a sponge learning from everyone I meet. Everyone has a different perspective and another way to make success happen. I read allot of informational books as well as taking advanced training courses in all subjects. Some of my favorites are “Hustle harder Hustle smarter,” by 50 cents and “You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincero. I absolutely the motivation and energy of courses by Jack Canfield and Tony Robbins. I thoroughly enjoy learning from others’ experiences and through their individual high achieving perspectives.
