Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hilary Baer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hilary, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was your school or training experience like? Share an anecdote or two that you feel illustrate important aspects or the overall nature of your schooling/training experience.
My first professional experience after graduate school was with an endocrinologist specialized in women’s hair loss. It was there that I witnessed firsthand the profound impact enhancing a patients physical appearance could have on his or her self esteem. Time and again, irrespective of the severity of the diagnosis at hand, patients felt best, when they felt they looked best. This experience inspired me to dedicate my clinical practice to aesthetic medicine.
Hilary, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Hilary Baer Hogan, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner, and founder/owner of Bare Skin Marin, a multi-award winning destination for facial balancing and skin health optimization based in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area.
Our team is on a mission to inspire confidence so that our patients and clients can live happier more fulfilling lives. Through our signature approach, the Bare Skin Method, we deliver nonsurgical medical aesthetic enhancements as undetectable as they are impactful— physically and emotionally. As one patient recently described, “it’s changed everything for me: I’ve joined the gym, changed my diet, and am even painting in color.”
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes! I am never not searching for wisdom or inspiration whether through books, podcasts, or travel. I recently finished “Unreasonable Hospitality: The Remarkable Power of Giving People More Than They Expect” by Will Guidara. I was particularly moved when Guidara described the concept of “Dreamweavers,” a subset of employees responsible for elevating the client experience to the highest standard— to the stuff of dreams. I loved this and have since incorporated ways to deliver a dreamlike experience to our clientele as well.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2021 I left my first job in aesthetic medicine where I practiced for over five years. Three weeks later my otherwise globe-trotting, Barre-obsessed, MD retiree mom was diagnosed w terminal brain cancer. It brought me to my knees. And also forced me to make a very conscious decision to either resign to grief— or leverage the moment to do something I felt really good about. I chose the latter, and started my own practice w my sister. In a span of two years Bare Skin Marin has received numerous awards and recognition from multiple publications including “Best Medspa” and “Best Cosmetic Dermatology.” I am so proud of what we have accomplished in a short time, and even more excited for what we have yet to build.
