We recently connected with High June and have shared our conversation below.
High June, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
We formed High June two years before graduating from East Carolina University and committed to chasing music full time after school. James (rhythm guitarist) gave up job security to stay in the band, and after having virality on social media we got swarmed by labels and management companies wanting to work with us. We took a risk by turning down early offers before connecting with our manager Mark Didia from Red Light Management through our attorney Gus Gusler. Since then, we have released new music, toured with The Black Crowes, and are gearing up to hit the road with Dexter and The Moonrocks.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
High June is a rock band from North Carolina that has been releasing music together for about two and a half years. Known for their high-energy performances and unique sound, the band has quickly built a reputation that’s carrying them beyond their home state. They recently kicked off their first run of shows outside of North Carolina, sharing the stage with legends like The Black Crowes and rising rock acts such as Dexter and The Moonrocks.
Everyone in the band comes from different musical backgrounds, and they first came together at East Carolina University. High June’s sound has grown into a melting pot of genres, unbound by any single style.
High June releases a variety of music that incorporates several different genres, along with merchandise available on their website at www.highjuneofficial.com
What sets High June apart is that they’re one of the few rock bands still pushing boundaries and trying new things. Their biggest mission is to stay true to a diverse sound and never get stuck following a single path.
Some of the band’s proudest moments have come in just the past few months. We recently brought on Mark Didia from Red Light Management as our manager, and through that connection, we had the opportunity to tour with The Black Crowes—an unforgettable experience to say the least.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is connecting with fans. It’s incredible to hear people say our music inspires them, helps them heal, or fires them up, and seeing that impact in person is on another level. There’s nothing like the high the band feels when stepping on stage in front of an energy-hungry crowd.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Non-creatives and non-artists don’t always understand the highs and lows that come with being in a touring band, let alone the personal risks you have to take to make it work.
