We were lucky to catch up with Hideki Aono recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hideki, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
Technical vs people skills. (Hard vs soft skills)
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hideki Aono has been photographing and covering events in NYC over the past 10+ years. Hideki is very attentive, pays attention to detail and his client needs. Hideki specializes in fashion, art, music, lifestyle portraits, special events and food photography. His work has been featured on a variety of notable publications both locally and globally. He is always willing to go above and beyond for his clients and brings a level of sophistication and professionalism to his craft.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Networking, always be open to new opportunities. Meeting and treating each person you meet with respect and interest. I usually approach every person with curiosity and how I might be able to help them with a particular problem. Since I am a creative that has a variety of different visual skill sets that go beyond photography, I am always looking for other ways I can potentially help people.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In terms of resilience, I think the last two years has definitely put that to the test. I was contemplating whether to continue keeping my LLC open if I was unable to meet clients in person. During this time I was able to keep myself motivated to continue by learning other new techniques and also practicing at home with studio lighting. Even if I didn’t work with models I actually went back into product photography and also learning new techniques within software as well. These things among some other pivots I had to make during that time have both helped me to stay productive and go deeper so I continue on with my photography.
