Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hery Acosta. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hery, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Growing up being abused and neglected by the adults in my life. After going through all kinds of issues due to my upbringing I finally started trying to figure out why all of this happened to me. I started researching child abuse and neglect trying to find answers. In my research I realized that I had personally experienced 8 out of the 12 categories of child abuse and neglect. I figured how can I use this experience as a positive. I decided to use this experience to help others going through what I had. I decided to write my story to help people who have experienced what I had. After publishing my story . I realized that I could also speak on overcoming trauma. I started a speaking business to combat the effects of trauma. I decided to write a series of my autobiography to show my process of dealing with trauma.

Hery, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I became an author because I had a story that I believed the world needed to hear. I realized that being willing to talk about my rough upbringing allowed others to share their stories as well. The fact that I have experienced 8 of the 12 categories of child abuse and neglect put me in a position to personally understand a lot of different traumas.
I am the most proud when I give youth hope or encourage them to see themselves better.
I want people to know that “It can be done” you can have peace in your life even if you have experienced a form of trauma.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I stared writing my book I had no prior experience. I wasn’t even a fan of books or writing. I just knew that I had experienced a childhood that people would never believe. I would hear stories and watch movies about child abuse and neglect and they always seemed better than my situation. That when I decided to write my own story.
I stared off what I called throwing up the past on paper. It was the biggest facts or events that came to mind. Then I looked to make them come together. My next step was to have someone go over it and ask questions. I would add details and answer any questions my readers had in to the book.
Ten years go by with me learning more writing techniques and adding them to my book. Countless revisions later the project continues.
On the 11th year of working on my book it was put on the back burner. One day while talking to my brother he mentioned that my daughter is proud of me for writing a book.
I realized I wasn’t doing enough to make the book happen. I found what I needed to finish the book. I found an editor, line editor and publisher. I paid a bunch of money to make sure I retained all rights of the project. My book was released 11/15/2025.

Have you ever had to pivot?
After I released my book I was approach by a lot of people who had been through traumatic experiences. They told me hearing my story helped them deal with their situation. I realized that I could share my story and help a lot of people in the process. After I identified a series of what I called traumas pitfalls or mind sets. I realized that people who have been through trauma can fall into these mindsets. I talk about how these mindsets can hold people back. I explain how these mindsets are not working and that their are other ways of thinking.
