We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hershel Castleberry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hershel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
Honestly, the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me is believe in me. I don’t think you know how good that feels as a person to have someone believe in you. the sad part is more often its the people that have known you for ages and watch you grow that will not believe in you or support you.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I assist in the building of control panels for the big 3 and more. I am proud to work in the field of automotive engineering for McNaughton-McKay Electric as my work has a large impact on the auto industry.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I think it’s clichéd, but that no one will come and save you. Your life is solely up to you.
For years i would often try to find the faults in others and everything else but myself; blaming others for my mishaps and using that as a consistent crutch to not change and progress. Then you have that epiphany moment; where you hit a crossroad in life. Mine was divorce.
Divorce taught me that you have to own everything in your life and understand that pointing the finger in a attempt to magnify someone else faults only makes you look foolish. Neither of us that exist are perfect.
2022 was a major, critical and painful year. BUT, the time I spent alone further taught me how to love me again and learn new skills.
The skill to progress and take back control of my life!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Being seen and daily practice.
Whatever you do, should have been done for free until someone told you that you should be paid for it.
I have to go to the gym consistently to look a certain way and to practice my craft so I can establish conversations and connections with people. Believe it or not I have NO SOCIAL MEDIA! it can be done without a tweet or a post. that area is oversaturated anyway and often demoralizing.
While having fitness conversations we get into the depths of who they are and this can often happen in a group setting in which others will hear me and be intrigued.
Get some air, get outside and do the legwork. Your art, skill or talent should exude through your personality and how you speak/carry yourself.
