Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Heroek. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Heroek, thanks for joining us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
Being young in the music and entertainment industry, I find that a lot of potential collaborators have hesitancy to work with me. They take my young age as inexperience and naivety, and may not think I have what it takes to be a worthwhile collaboration. I’ve had music artists turn me down on features, as well as podcast guests decline invitations to come on Hero’s Journey for this reason.
Heroek, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a young music producer and artist, who’s looking to infuse positive messages into my music. Being inspired by and looking up to artists like Twenty One Pilots, Billie Eilish, and AJR, I see that artists who use their music for good can foster close connections with their fans. I also aim to make music with messages that can help the listener through tough times. Additionally, I like to collaborate with artists on songs that try and do something you’ve never heard before, or try and stand out from the crowd in some way.
For my podcast, Hero’s Journey, I love getting to meet and talk to music artists and public figures. It’s great to talk about their music and some of the stories behind it, but I also enjoy just making a personal connection with the artist themself.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’ve needed lots of resiliency in hosting a podcast. Even looking over some of the rescheduling, technical difficulties, or promotional aspects, I’ve sent out countless emails to artists about coming on, and I’m met with refusals or no responses at all. I have to keep working to not let this discourage me, and know that even if 1 out of 100 guests says yes, that 1 guest could be a better conversation than all other 99 combined.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think having ways to highlight smaller or independent music artists can really benefit the industry. A small handful of the world’s biggest artists have an iron grip on what gets promoted on music platforms, so increasing ways to discover smaller artists who could be a listener’s new favorite artist or band is extremely important.
