We recently connected with Hermez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hermez, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I feel like everyday is a risk. A risk if you’ll live up to your full potential or not. A life changing risk for me creating the type of music I make. Being boring in America & my identity being Nigerian I had to really find myself within the music. I explored sounds & took influences from Sade to 2pac to Wizkid.
Hermez, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hermez is a Nigerian singer/songwriter currently based out of Houston, TX. Hermez’s sound is an eclectic mix of R&B and afrobeats that translates into what is now coined as Afro-Soul. His melodies and ear grabbing hooks are what feed into his signature process. He’s the new age vanguard on he purses music & art.
Receiving radio airplay from across Nigeria and the UK, including NTS Radio, Rinse FM, NTS Radio, Cool FM, City FM, Unilag FM, Hot FM.
He’s graced stages across the US, including at Elsewhere (NYC) and and performed alongside the likes of Don Toliver.
Owning LLC Divine Tree in partnership with his brother and manager amongst others to help highlight talent out of the African diaspora.
Divine Tree LLC exists as a management company designed to foster meaningful connections among professionals across diverse industries. Our mission is to facilitate collaborative endeavors that leverage each individual’s unique talents, ultimately generating mutual value. Our vision centers on fostering independent growth, free from the constraints of a corporate behemoth.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn trusting others advice & trusting my opinion first & last. The opinions of others are optional and shouldn’t be considered unless it betters the result of whatever I’m doing. You need that much advice. The whole purpose to find your calling and uniqueness.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes, Celestine prophecies The alchemist, the four agreements think & grow rich, the Nipsey autobiography book and also the playbook by Ty all these books really influenced my life in a major way. Spiritually mentally socially financially it all help me grow in ways that I didn’t know I needed too.
