We recently connected with Henry Wang and have shared our conversation below.

Henry, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?

Coming from an immigrant family, and being a first generation American, my parents have always instilled the mentality of being grateful and humble for all the little things in life. Understanding that working hard and being intentional with what you put you energy into has allowed me to be focused and maintain the vision and bigger picture in life.

Another thing that my parents did right was to always persevere through tough times in life. I have seen/been apart of many situations that required a lot of discipline; I have brought this into my adult life and this has encouraged me to keep a positive attitude when difficult situations arise. Ensuring that I have a good head on my shoulders has helped me with making decision with Inscentive.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

My name is Henry Wang, I was born in Alaska, raised in Toronto, currently reside in Cleveland. I moved around a lot when I was growing up, so I was always in a state of “get up and go”. As I grow older, I realize that everything you do in life should have an incentive and purpose; to do things with intention. Hence, the name inscentive was created.

Because of my background, smells always brought me back to a certain period of time in my life, and gave me a nostalgic feeling. So I figured why not create candles that not only have a memorable fragrance, but also create new memories associated with them that last a lifetime.

Inscentive is more than just a brand, it is a lifestyle that everyone deserves.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

One lesson that I had to unlearn was that, your life story/business journey does not have to be “normal” or “traditional”. I learned to appreciate the unique journey that everyone goes on in their life; in return all brands/businesses tell a hidden story. Just like how humans never stop evolving and growing, neither do successful businesses and brands.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?

Some of the influential people in my life are the ones that are closest to me that have their own businesses and/or working very hard in their respective careers. It is very motivating and helpful when friends/family members are also on a similar journey as you; it puts things into perspective. Having positive relationships where you can discuss business decisions or to just have a stress free conversation in itself is very liberating; almost like a mental/soulful reset… and we all need that from time to time.
