We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Henry Louis Adams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Henry Louis below.
Alright, Henry Louis thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
From the young age of 19, I have always been in ministry. I have always enjoyed serving others. This leads me to work as a Pastor specializing in outreach to the low or no-income community.. After years of Pastoring, I took a corporate job. I was compelled to leave the corporate job 12 years ago in pursuit to find a path that will not only provide for my family’s needs but provide in abundance while I enjoyed growing in my new career.
I always loved to sing and act but never knew how I could use those skills professionally. During my corporate career, I heard a lot about the film industry growing in Georgia. From my previous experience as a Pastor and Community servant that has often spoken to the media, I was very curious about how I could serve the film industry. I knew that it would be very different from giving interviews. I learned through acting classes that it would be giving of myself to serve the purpose of that character. I have always had an interest in the arts. In my 20’s, I did a professional play called “The Azuza Street Revival”, I think that play sparked an interest in me to act. I started as a background actor to learn about the film industry before I jumped in professionally. After serving as a background actor, I studied, got an agent, and started my professional career as an Actor which has landed me several roles on networks such as OWN, TVONE, and Investigation Discovery. I am so very proud of my work on shows such as “David Makes Man”, “Fatal Attraction”, “Murder Calls” “Montross – Blood Rules” by Hillionaire Productions, and many more.
Having been in the film industry for 12 years now, I must say that I am not where I thought I would be. This industry is not easy. You spend most of your time auditioning. In this field, you have to have patience, because you will get a lot of rejection. But then again, there will be some beautiful opportunities that will open for you also, if you stay the course.
Henry Louis , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a father, and husband first. I have a beautiful supportive wife and daughter. I am a Pastor that happens to be an Actor, also. I love the arts. I write poetry and have authored two books. My goal as a Pastor is to serve and encourage as many as I can, while I can. My goal as an Actor is to be truthful to the roles I am given and inspire others. This is what I mean about inspiration in Acting. I am a little black kid from the Gresham Park/Meadowview Drive area of Atlanta, Georgia. I had big dreams. And, I just so happen to be blessed to accomplish some of those dreams. I want young men to look at me and be inspired and encouraged to pursue their dreams. It has been a long hard-fought battle to make a name and build a reputation in the acting industry. It has taken me twelve years. That is a lot of time. There were a lot of sacrifices for myself and my family. But when times got hard, I always remember what my daughter told me. She said, “Daddy, Never give up, Keep trying”. That little girl’s voice lives in my head and pushes me to keep going.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that I get to create and inspire. It is not an easy task to do what you love and make a living at it. When people see where I’ve come from and where I am now, I pray that it inspires them to follow their dreams. The work is not easy. This path is not easy. But the experiences are life-changing and life-enriching. As an artist, what I create stays here on the earth. I get to leave a gift on the earth for someone else to enjoy. That makes me happy, From my ministry, books, and film work, I get to bring some enjoyment and excitement to another soul and that makes it all worth it.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I first embarked on ministry or even acting, I learned that it was not the job of people to give me anything. Everything that I have gained came through hard work, dedication, and my faith in God. Sometimes, we get a sense that people are to just hand us success on a platter without hard work and sacrifice. I quickly learned that it doesn’t work that way in real life. Studying, learning your craft, and being impactful will positively touch the lives of people. Our gifts are made by God to make room for us and bring us before great men. I stand on that wisdom from the scriptures. This is why I do my due diligence, study, work hard, serve and always walk in humility because I know that all of my success comes from God. This is what I believe, wholeheartedly.
