We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Henry Bell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Henry, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Beyond writing all star resumes and LinkedIn profiles I also provide post-delivery career coaching support. I stick around after the deal is done and the money is made because I understand that job seekers are on a journey and I want to help them every step of the way. From the initial job search, interview process and eventually signing on the dotted line. I stand on my work and make sure my clients get what they paid for – netting real results and securing life changing opporutntiies.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always been a natural writer at heart but I grew up in a society that told me writing doesn’t pay the bills. So I pursued a career in information technology instead. I don’t regret it because technology runs the world. I eventually worked my way into Human Resources and took my knowledge and inside expertise to help job seekers land fulfilling and purpose-driven opportunties. We aren’t taught how to write a resume or fill out a job application. The education system fails horribly in this area. That’s why 75% of college graduates don’t work in the field they major in. I noticed this gap early on and built my buiness around filling a need to help job seekers. Arming them with professional branding knowledge and providing career services that helps job seekers avoid being denied an opportunity they deserve all because of a sheet of paper. Out of everything I’m most proud of the fact that I get to change lives with words. I get to help mothers spend more time with their children, I get to help people who suffer mental health issues from operating in toxic work enviroments find opportunites that make them excited to get out of bed in the morning. I get to help my clients experience what a true work/life balance actually feels like vs. reading it in some article. Its extremely fulfilling. I want anyone who wants to work with me to know that I’m walking in my purpose and I make it my mission to take care of my clients till the very end.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
It sounds old school and its a form of marketing that everyone sleeps on but word of mouth. When you find a formula that works and you consistently delivery a quality product/service people will spread your business around like wildfire. I have a 90% close rate on referrals because these are people that are coming in with trust – the one thing you MUST earn from a customer to make them seperate themselves from their money. Its free marketing and the most powerful form of promotion on the planet.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Reviews reviews reviews. Telling people how great you are means nothing. When other people are telling people how great you are that means everything. We’re ruled by reviews and they dictate who we give our money to. I can’t tell you how many clients I land simply because they read reviews from previous clients who rave about their experience working with me. Trust is everything in business and positive reviews help build buyer confidence.
