We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful HennyCi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with HennyCi below.
Hi HennyCi, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
There’s actually not a simple answer I can give to best answer this because I’ve never actually not worked a regular job while pursing my passions and creative longevity goals. As we all know, the economy alone makes it a challenge to sustain a suitable income, while allowing a person to not only focus on their passion but be able to invest in it from the ground up. People such as myself simply chooses to work a 9-5 or two, just to be able to live and invest time and the funds to grow closer to that end goal. If I had it my way, I would wake up, and hop straight on the mic, drinking my coffee while tapping my pen on my notepad. However, fitting that in after I’ve handled my regular job will suffice until I can give 100% to music.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Going from Cierra, a multitalented girl born and raised in Atlanta, to HennyCi, the hairstylist, music artist, actress and more, has been a wonderful yet fulfilling journey that’s ongoing. Growing up, Ive always had my feet into writing. At just 7 years old, I’ve wrote and published my first ever haiku. Poetry then turned into music and the rest is still being written. Learning that I was gifted in styling hair of all types, came second nature, being that I was surrounded by my beautiful sisters who are master licensed cosmologist, today. Ive now created a business as one of the best Atlanta braiders/locticians and will continue to grow and invest that into funding my music. Being someone who has such passions, can be very overwhelming and mentally challenging, not knowing when, where, or how to give time and dedication to those many things. What helps me tremendously, is curating a chart that has specific goals, on what days I should be doing them, followed by the times. Having a detailed schedule and actually sticking to it will eventually help you tackle each area with ease. Im most proud of my determination and willingness to grow because I know with every fiber in my body that God has a plan for me, giving me the ultimate joy and fulfillment. For now, book your next style with “HennyCiHands” and I look forward to meeting you in the booth!

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my opinion, as a proud lyricist, would it be naive to want and actually believe the world will one day acknowledge, respect and desire meaningful music instead of pushing industry plants and mumble rap, being the standard for hip hop? I believe society as a whole could start by cleansing their pallets, start focusing on personal growth, morality, ethics and standards so that lyricist and artist who really breathe music can have a clear shot at being main stream. It starts with us and that’s what I believe society can do best to support artist, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
The only resource I wish I knew about earlier in my creative journey, is the art of networking and social media marketing. However, it’s never too late and everyday I learn more and more about what it truly takes to thrive in the entertainment industry besides just talent.
