We recently connected with Helin Cetin and have shared our conversation below.
Helin , appreciate you joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
I have a sensitive side that I’m learning to embrace more. While most people who only know me from social media or in passing might not see this side of me, I think it’s important to find a balance between both. When I made the decision to move away and pursue my dreams, many people projected their own fears and doubts onto me, but I didn’t let that stop me. After a year of living here, they finally realized that what I had set out to do was actually possible.
That’s what I’m all about – inspiring people to never settle for anything that doesn’t make them feel alive. That’s the worst thing you can do in life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Helin Cetin, a singer, and performer originally from Düsseldorf, Germany. I’ve been pursuing my music and performing dreams in the United States for a while now, drawing inspiration from all the experiences I’ve gathered throughout my short 22 years of life. I love expressing myself through my art, and Miami, FL is the perfect place to do it with its constant growth and new challenges.
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember and have always enjoyed putting on a show. Instead of going to college or university, I decided to follow my passion for music. Not that graduating and going to college or uni isn’t a great accomplishment!.. just not one I was seeing for myself. Not that graduating and going to college or uni isn’t a great accomplishment!.. just not one I was seeing for myself. It wasn’t an easy road, but it’s been worth it. I’m constantly evolving as an artist, and I’m always looking to push myself and create something new.
My music is all about making people feel something, whether it’s deep sadness or intense joy. I want my songs to resonate with people and become a soundtrack for their lives. When they’re feeling down, I want them to turn to my music and find comfort in it. When they’re feeling confident and on top of the world, I want them to be like “Yo, put on that Helin joint that go like…” As emotional and sensitive as I am, I am also extremely full of myself.. only sometimes:)
My music is a reflection of who I am, and I hope it inspires others to embrace their own uniqueness and follow their dreams.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My drive is my youth. My reason to live, my resilience to create MY life. There’s so much beauty in being able to choose, decide and determine how your day or life will go daily. I also think a lot about myself as a little kid. One trait that has never gotten out of my head, imprinted in my brain, is my desire to sing on stage. To have people feel something so ethereal and indescribable. A lot of people cry and experience every emotion. I have learned to balance most emotions and outrages but all my life has been an emotional rollercoaster. I mean, my life IS a rollercoaster and I wouldn’t want it any other way. it makes me feel alive, and that’s what keeps me going. keeping the spark and the passion up in everything, and fulfilling my inner childs vision of her future self.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Your identity is (most of the time) tied straight to your Image as an artist. Especially for me personally, since my stage name is also my actual name: HELIN. When Helin is going through something and she doesn’t want to show up or she’s going through an interesting intense transitional time of her life she has no other choice but to show up for HELIN. There is no such thing as a work-life balance. At least not to the extent that you have with a 9-5 or corporate career. You learn to show up for both every day.
