We were lucky to catch up with Helen Tran recently and have shared our conversation below.
Helen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to create long lasting memories for my clients while also bringing out their confidence. This is my mission because I personally have experienced what it feels like to get my picture taken in an awkward situation and I did not like the outcome. On the other hand, I also have experienced what it’s like to have my picture taken by someone who cheers me on and makes me feel confident. The two experiences are the difference between having memories you love or not having memories at all. I believe that everyone deserves to have photos they feel confident and secure in, and I want to be a part of memories they will cherish forever.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Helen and I am a 24-year-old photographer in the DFW area. I got into photography because I was always the friend who got everyone’s “good angles”. I thought it would be a fun hobby to get into and try out since I’ve always had a creative side to myself. As I’ve gained confidence in my photography skills, I decided to turn my fun hobby into a business. I think what sets me apart from my competitors is the level of empathy I show to my clients and how comfortable and confident I help them feel, enabling us to have a fun time creating memories despite any sorts of nerves in the beginning.
I currently offer a variety of photoshoots, ranging from family to boudoir shoots. I also love trying new types of shoots/ideas, so if you have a concept in mind, I would love to hear it!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
With life always being so serious, I enjoy being a creative and having a way to express myself. The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the spontaneity of my jobs. No two jobs are the same and being able to give each client a tailored experience is a one-of-a-kind opportunity.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building a reputation within your market can be a challenging task. I think what helped me build my reputation was networking with other photographers and business owners. The DFW can seem like such a large area to cover, but meeting the right people can change the way you view your market. I enjoy being connected with the community and spreading the word about other small businesses, and whenever the favor is returned, I am forever grateful for the heartwarming experience.
