We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Helen Keaney. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Helen below.
Alright, Helen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was around eight years old I would watch TV and want to crawl into the Magical fantasy box of fun, otherwise know as a television set. I did my first professional TV acting job when I was 17, it was a McDonald’s commercial. It just all kind of morphed into stand up comedy. I loved writing and performing, more so than saying words other people wrote.

Helen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a stand up comedian. I started in NYC, then moved to Los Angeles and now live in FL. I toured for 4 years with two other women in a theater show called “3 Blonde Moms”, we sold out a theater at the Montreal Just For Laughs festival. I then headlined on my own, touring around the country. My act is very interactive, crowd work it’s called in the industry.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I was in my 30’s a agent told me I was too old and dropped me from the roster. He became a real estate agent I went on to continue to work on television and stage. Never let anyone else’s idea of your success or failure define you.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love the energy of a live audience. The magic of connecting with total strangers and showing how we are all the same. I also find it very rewarding defying expectations.
