We were lucky to catch up with Helen Hooper recently and have shared our conversation below.
Helen, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I think you most defining moment in my career in community advocacy and Human services is when a young woman I was helping through some childhood trauma tried to commit suicide. She had become very close to me, a friend even. One day she called to say goodbye and to see to her son and her soon to be born grandson. Long story short, she lived. I was determined to find her in the city in an urgent search with the assistance from three police forces , we found her and she lived. I had never experienced anyone giving their last living request for me to carry out. Just to know she called me to say goodbye, made me know she wanted to continue to live, but didn’t know how. Her inner trauma of seeing her mother commit suicide had become to much for her. Today she’s still hear, and moving forward. From that day to this, I realized the ladies I help, trust me with their lives. That experience made me want to be a more excellent servant of people.
Helen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I founded The Lady’s Choice Center for Women, Inc. for my daughter in 2003 in Fayetteville, NC when she was in the ninth grade, I formed the organization because she would bring different people and friends to confide in me about their problems or situations, so I decided to form an organization for girls that would assist them in the navigating the winding roads and detours they encounter and will encounter in their lives. Lady’s Choice Center for Women, Inc.
Focuses on the well being of women of all ages. We believe women need a sound solid launching pad to become strong successful contributors in society. The Lady’s Choice Center for Women, Inc. is dedicated to teaching, mentoring, and developing future leaders and Trail Blazers.
What sets us apart from most centers for women is that we are a one stop organization that offers all resources under one roof, even etiquette training for elementary school age. We pride ourselves on our excellence in serving communities and around the country. We have board members in five states because we help women everywhere, no boundaries. Our board members are seated from North Carolina, Arizona, Texas, Georgia, and of course Florida.
I am so proud of the advocacy we do in the communities in which we serve. Mostly low income underserved areas. I recruited several community partners in the medical field and opened an on-site clinic for the mothers and their children on one of the areas most dangerous low income properties. I am most proud of that project.
The Lady’s Choice Center for Women, Inc. reach extends around the globe, we just finished a virtual summer camp for girls the “The “YGT” You Got This Camp 2022 for Girls. The camp reached over 3,400 girls and families. Five days, one hour a day, five dynamic speakers to pour into our young ladies from the ages of 9yrs to 18yrs. Because it was a virtual camp there were visitors from the UK, and Nigeria, Canada. I can’t wait until next year,,we are all ready planning. We are excited about the camp’s success,

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Moving from one state to another and having to build my business from the ground up again was a struggle. It was very hard work, a lot of boots on the ground. Looking back I would not change my profession. Resilience builds strong character. It is my reasonable service to serve.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My persistence to build my brand. Fostering positive community partnerships and relationships. Partnerships are the key to success for any organization or business.
