We recently connected with Helen Altamirano and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Helen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
Since I started the business one of the company value is to show customer appreciation. For example during the holidays I offer special discount to show my appreciation at the same time to encourage customers to renovate their floors by choosing some of our services.

Helen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are a flooring company that provide installation, (lvp – laminate- engineered hardwood – unfinished hardwood) , sand and finish hardwood ( new floors and existing floors), handrails, and steps. Our main goal is to provide the best customer service experience and fulfill all their expectations. We set apart from others, because we have high standards. Our first priority is to create the best quality Floors and customize professional hardwood floor services to help families to enjoy their homes.
Our vision is to create happiness in our customers with the world most respected hardwood floors service.
I got enrolled in the flooring industry because a family member my brother started before in this field. He has 17 years experience in this area. I got to know about the flooring projects through his work and I thought it was fun and beautiful to renew hardwood floors.
Since 2015 I was collecting my own data, taking some notes how to start the business.
It took me almost 2 years preparing my research in my own business plan. After I was finalized with all the information from different sources. In April 2017 I opened the business with the secretary of the state.
One issue that happened to me , I was kind of nervous because I went alone to fill out all the paper to register the name. I miss to write and . In the beginning I wrote : Sinbad and the enchanted floors.
I was nervous when I registered. Then after a month I realized I skip the connection. I did a miss spelling. I went back to the secretary of the state to rectify the name. But I speak out to the ladies at the front desk. You know something never mind, I’m gonna leave the written the way it is. Because it will reminds me and all the customers how hard is for an immigrant to start a business in this country starting for the language, the people who have passed the same situation like me previously with the name of my company will remind them how hard a small business try to be competitive in this industry compare to big companies with over 50 years and over experience .
I’m grateful with all my customers for trusting their projects.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Now days social media play a very important role for small business to reach all of their customers. In order to get to know more customers I opened my instagram account under my business and Facebook . Both accounts are very helpful because I got customers through this pages without paying expensive leads generators.
I suggest to create their business account and little by little they will build their audience.
Sometime in social media you don’t need million of followers because those are not your customers. You just need the right people to connect with you . Those who are willing to pay for your service.
I recommend do not spend money by buying followers.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience this is something I learn from my parents . They have thought me to keep working hard and after a while all of the hard work one day will pay off. In the beginning as small business no one know you as a business. Because you can work for many years under a particular brand name but when you start your own business you have zero customers. The people don’t know you as a leader how well you can manage a business. So this is one of the most difficult test for and entrepreneurs, small business owner to keep open during the first year when there are few customers who buy your product or service.
Absolutely I had to be very resilient during the first 2 years when I opened the business.
