We recently connected with Helen Altamirano and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Helen, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?

The name comes from 2 of my favorite fairytale stories: the enchanted lamp and Sinbad the sailor . Since I was a little girl I used to watch those cartoon almost every Saturday and Sunday that used to be shown in the local channel when I was living in Nicaragua.

Since I decided  to enroll in the flooring industry, I knew I had to choose a catching name that will stick forever in my customers mind and they will never forget after I introduced my  business name.

Actually I did some testing with some people in a coffee shop and some customer who contacted me for the flooring service. I asked them what did they think about this name for a flooring business. In first instance, they heard Sinbad the enchanted floors, their face expression was a big smile . The people from the coffee shop  told me that this name reminded  them so much their childhood memories . For me it was the perfect name for a  business. Because it was not going to be just a simple name . This business name was going to dig deeper in their mind to bring some part of their great memories from their past and this is the reason I have decided to choose this name for my business. I think whoever listen my business name it is unforgettable for them. Actually as soon as they need a flooring service immediately they will remember Sinbad the enchanted floors which is associated with their childhood moments.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I had enroll in the business industry because my brother works in hardwood flooring since 2008. In 2015  I was not happy with the job I was doing at that time. I always wanted to do a work that will bring so much joy to my daily life. I wanted to work in a field where I can felt so much passion for that job. At first instance, I loved all his work and custom floors he was doing in his job. This is the way how I start  in the hardwood floor industry. Little by little I felt so much passion to be part of this Industry to enroll in this job.

Since that moment I set my goal to open a business with all the insurance and license requirements.
I started to do the deep search about all the requirements in the state to set up the name, how to obtain an EIN number , and legal steps.

In the beginning, I had the willingness and all the enthusiasm to create a business plan.
Actually I created the business plan but there is something we should never underestimate  the difference between the fact and reality.

When I did my search, I found my potential customers with a small marketing search.
But the biggest problem was how to connect  with my potential customers.

I appreciate the opportunity to one of the biggest carpet company in the state “Zero Rez” , because they referred me all the customer whose were inquiring the flooring service. It was a great help to get to know in the market and communicate with my future potential  clients.

As a female business owner I love to point every single detail and what makes me set apart from other is my patience and customer satisfaction. Because I love to take notes of the customer requirements and review the results of the work with a walk on the floor with them. As female small business owner I do care to fulfill their requirements  with my work.

The main thing that makes me apart from others is my honesty in the flooring business because I’m very honest with all of my clients male and females. Integrity is one of the company value and we put in practice since the first appointment which is the free quotes.  I let them know if one particular floor is gonna look good with the sanding or if we can do the small repair and help our customers to save their money.

I’m proud of all the compliments I get a lot from my customers because they are so pleased with our work and ethic. This is something that encourage me to improve every day in our system as well to give our best in every  work.

We work so hard to provide the best customer service in all of our jobs that we get hired and doesn’t matter the size . All the jobs are very important for us .In  Every job we give our 100% effort to provide the best  quality work in town.

Have you ever had to pivot?

When I was in my 20’s.  I had plan  to work in my field as industrial Engineer.  So when I moved to usa I was looking to validate my bachelor degree in the engineering board. I went to school for English program in college then I was working to submit my classes to check how many credits I was going to get for the validation.

In the process, I was working long hours as a cashier and I felt I had so much potential to give I switch my job. I gave myself the opportunity to work in the flooring industry.

I felt so much attraction for the construction industry since I had  the opportunity to learnt  from my brother his job  everything related to hardwood floors. I took the chance to start a new business my own small business it was going to be a great opportunity for me to put in practice my career background and create a nice company to bring more jobs in the state.
I had to pívot my career in USA and focus in one goal to build my business plan to establish my own company.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

I have learn to be resilient from my parents. My father was a hard worker man, he was someone who never attended school but learnt math to perfectly count his money. He never learnt how to read. He used to showed all the documents to 2 up to 4 different people and listen their reading and comprehension. He was very resilient.

My mother as well she is extremely resilient, even though she was fighting under a cancer treatment by 2008 she never allowed me to quit school . My mom she is my warrior and she always encourages me to work hard even the circumstances were little difficult. In my own business I have to put in practice the resilient value that I inherited from my parents. My mother always says,  whoever persists in the future will get good results from all of that effort.
