Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Heir Brandon Peace. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Heir Brandon, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Well in my industry of filmmaking, everything I create is an extension of me. That’s the pulcritude of it. I’m not trying to be like “Hollywood” or be this influencer. I’m just me, my content is raw, unedited, unpolished and that’s what I believe resonates with the audience. Heir Digital Media always was / is a space to create what has never been done. The why and what makes the difference matters is that you have to be aware of the trend and then create your own.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
So I’ll speak about both my industries: Filmmaking & Farming.
For filmmaking, I started off young. I love telling this story. So I was 13 years old, in 8th grade. I always loved sports, basketball specifically (it’s my first love), but it wasn’t my time to play high school ball but I always was at the games. So my high school coach, Chop, needed someone to record the games which were on Tuesdays & Fridays, to study for film the day after. So I didn’t know what I was doing, but I still volunteered. He was like, “this is how you turn it on, here’s the record button, and in the bag there’s two DVR tapes to record on. Stop tapes at free throws and when there’s a timeout. And when it’s half time switch them.” One of the best experiences. So from there I got better at it, traveling with the team and getting out of school for tournaments (which was the best part).
Fast forward, In high School, started recording my teammates at practice, from there I went to college, Langston University, (the only HBCU in the state of Oklahoma), started recording people on campus at events, step shows, football team, and for Greek fraternities. Soon after, I got better and the office of public relations and paid me to produce videos and Graphixs. Whoa. i Can get paid from this? Opened my whole world. Started my own scripted show called, “In the LUop” which basically highlighte campus activities and organizations around campus. So I was in my producer bag in that season.
Graduated (not really though), started my wedding business for a couple of years. Then I got into films, with credits for (3) films, one a feature film called “I can only imagine,” starring Dennis Quaid which did a couple million at the box office.
Since then I’ve had the opportunity to work with The Grio network, Netflix, Lionsgate just to name a few companies. Now I run Heir Digital which is a full service media company focusing on company voices within the nonprofit and startup business space,
Now for my farming journey: this one isn’t as extensive but it still is amazing, I promise. So I’m a 4th generation farmer. My 4x great grandfather, Peter, bought 56 acres in South Carolina back in the late 1800s. Now, I was always drawn to agriculture but never knew why until about a year ago. In college, I minored in agriculture business after sophomore because I couldn’t fight the feeling any longer.
After letting the urge sit for about seven years, I started volunteering at community gardens. Which was different because I never did anything like that before. Then, a couple of childhood friends invited to theirs and assist. One of the best experiences ever. Learned how to build trellises and what it meant to really take care of a full operation. Moved from my hometown, and went to another city to pursue it fully. Starting from 2020 to now, I’ve learned and installed rainwater tanks, started fruit orchards, planted over 150+ trees, shrubs, and now raising capital for my full service robotic hydroponics farm that I can announce yet, but it’s about a $1M Project that’s going to change the landscape of traditional agriculture.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes of course. In the film space, my goal is to provide housing for other filmmakers, writers, directors, etc to be able get what they need without having to go Hollywood to get it. If I can show them how to maneuver through mental obstacles and provide them the tools to make what they want, how they want it, and having a budget I believe they can accomplish anything. So the long term goal with Heir Digital is to be that BIG THING for aspiring talent.
On the Farming / Agriculture side, I wanna be able to not only feed my people with organic foods, but actually teach them how to get back to our ways of living. We were FARMERS. Ion believe in grocery stores, that’s wild to me. So if I can show them that they can get back to the original way of life. A lot of people in the Melanated community are dying from poor eating habits and lack of access to organic food. We’ll be able to change that.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Absolutely.
The lesson I had to learn is that life is a game of PATIENCE & BALANCE. NO LIE, at the time of me writing this, I have less than $100 in my bank account. lol. No lie. But I have so many things in the works that it’ll put me way over any amount that I can ask for. This is not a often talked about topic, but it needs to be. Just because you don’t have everything you want at this moment, doesn’t mean it’s not in transit to you. That’s the PATIENCE lesson. I had to unlearn that my temporary moments don’t mean FAILURE but it definitely caused me to find BALANCE.
