We were lucky to catch up with Heidy Hernandez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Heidy , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Sometimes as a business owner it does get lonely but you have to remind yourself about the amazing support system you have behind you even when you are not looking, and I don’t just mean this by your family and friends but the clients who put in as much effort as the team does. With that being said, I am happier as a business owner, I have created a niche of people who are always with me and look happy for the success of the company. Living paycheck to paycheck eventually gets tiring, therefore breaking this was an amazing feeling. I have been able to do much more with my financial stability, allowing me to help my daughters and myself grow much more. I do not take for granted the success of the business, driving me to think of what my life would be if I had a regular job and I can confidently say I would not be as happy both personally and professionally. The moment I always reflect on is during COVID – 19 when I had lost my job and was working as a factory worker, I did not feel like I was happy or growing in either aspect of my life and thanks to my daughters and the courage we all had we risked it all and launched this business that would not be nearly possible without the clients, family and the support of everyone. Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hernandez Cleans ATL is a Latinx owned cleaning company serving Metro Atlanta and surrounding areas. We’re proud to provide safe and reliable professionally-grade cleaning supplies, products, and services. We offer multiple cleaning packages that are designed to meet the demands and needs of our clients. Whether you need your house serviced on a regular basis or just one time, we have a cleaning option that’s right for you. We have seamless booking, fixed prices, offer over 15 cleaning packages/a la carte add ons, pet friendly, local, and soon will be adding organic, plant based cleaning packages! All of these services and packages have not been easy to construct, and I have been trying to improve my English each day to dismantle the language barrier. At the end of the day all I want is for my clients to be happy and satisfied with the service I provide for them. I enjoy seeing how happy and at peace clients get when they see their clean homes.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Hernandez Cleans Atlanta was a true initial gift from my eldest daughter, Berenice Rodriguez. I have been in the cleaning industry for over 14 years and with the lost of my job, Berenice sat me down and proposed to start a business, with living paycheck to pay check it was difficult to even have this dream come true therefore, she bought all my initial kit full of different supplies to help fulfill a basic standard cleaning, as profits came I slowly buying more things allowing us to expand to different packages! It was a long process but it is not impossible for all my individuals wanting to enter this industry.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
As the business continued to grow our priorities became different. We thought that it was an amazing idea to not just buy products that were efficient but products that were eco friendly, however, we had no idea on how to embrace it since this was something that people barely wanted to care about. Therefore, my second eldest daughter, Shayla, did hours of research and created an eco-friendly package and researched the best products for our clients. It was risky because she had never done this and it was a different spectrum that we had never touched but we received so much good feedback that helped the success of our business.
