We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Heidi & Christina. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Heidi & below.
Heidi & Christina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Well After becoming a first time mom I teamed up with my sister in order to make our sign making hobby a more steady income for the both of us. It started off slow by getting exposure at school craft fairs. These were a lot of work and required dedicating weeks of preparation and a full show day that wasn’t always convenient for our schedule. As difficult as these were, they were a vital first step! And we learned so much about how to run a business. We are so thankful to partner with stores like Heart to Home Artisan Market. This allows us to dedicate the necessary time to perfecting our craft and leave the details of selling to an expert!
Heidi & Christina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are sisters, Colorado natives and the makers behind Inspirational Designs. Our wood signs are not only extremely funny but they are also handmade, hand painted and made from reclaimed or discarded wood. Whether the ideal gift or perfect home decor, we have a sign to bring smiles to everyone. We also have handmade jewelry that reflects our love for Colorado and the things that make our state memorable. During the busy holiday season we bring in our husbands who make beautiful hand painted mountain scenes. They are so supportive and jump in to help wherever they can to get through those real busy days.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
We love to hear people laughing at one of our signs when they read it! That laugh is rewarding for us even if they don’t make a purchase. Everyone needs a laugh once in awhile.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Shop small businesses and especially Colorado small businesses! We love making one of a kind handmade items that you just can’t get from a big box store.
