We were lucky to catch up with Heidi Bannon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Heidi , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I went to Crater Lake and took the boat to Wizard Island. After climbing to the top, there were some weathered and twisted trees at the top that I just had to photograph. I showed some images to a friend, and they surmised “Twisted Photography”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been taking pictures for as long as I can remember. I had a Kodak Instamatic that used flash cubes. I was instantly hooked with capturing moments of time on film.
I can do custom digital art/photography by commission. I do commercial art that is available through multiple sources via CBrand Studios. Walmart, Wayfair, Target, Michael’s, ICanvas, Amanti Art, Amazon…
I am able to take a client’s ideas and produce multiple images and present options to them for order fulfillment. I try to let them lead the process so they get what they want.
I am mostly on Instagram, and have an organically grown following. I love that because no one gets lost in the algorithm, and I get to interact with them and learn from the other artists I follow.
I stay in frequent contact with my mentors because they are honest and aren’t afraid to tell me the truth. Pro Tip: surround yourself with images and artists of EVERY genre, style, attitude, age, level of accomplishment! We can inspire and get inspiration from any and everyone.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I don’t trust the NFT marketplace for two reasons: I don’t understand it, and it’s a wishy-washy platform. Monkeys worth 10s of thousands one day are worthless the next.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Repeat clients!!! Also, when someone sends me a love emoji when they see something I make. It’s the little ego boosts that keep me going.
