We were lucky to catch up with Heidi Alberts recently and have shared our conversation below.
Heidi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Heidi, the owner of Body Solutions Electrolysis & Training Center in Rochester, MN. We’ve been a trusted part of this community since 1990, and in 2020, I became the proud owner after years of mentorship, hands-on experience. We’re still family-owned and client-focused, and I’ve worked hard to continue the same welcoming, supportive care that this practice was built on.
In addition to providing electrolysis services (which is permanent hair removal), I also run a licensed training center for aspiring electrologists. Our school has been in operation since the early ’90s, and it’s helped launch the careers of many successful professionals across the Midwest. When I took over, I pursued advanced training in California and became a certified instructor so I could lead our small-group, hands-on classes with the same care and attention I give my clients.
A fun fact about me: I started out as an electrolysis client myself. I am a hairy person and was looking for a permanent solution. I know firsthand how frustrating unwanted hair can be. I tried so many different methods over the years, hoping for permanent results, and nothing worked until I found electrolysis. I still remember the relief I felt when I realized it was actually permanent. That experience changed my life, and it inspired me to help others find that same sense of confidence and peace.
Before helping people get rid of their unwanted hair, I spent over 20 years owning and operating a movie theater with my sister. I loved that work; it kept me connected to my community and taught me a lot about running a business. But eventually, I was ready for a new chapter. When my own electrologist mentioned she was planning to retire, I took it as a sign. I began training and never looked back.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Google has definitely been our biggest source of new clients, about two-thirds of them find us through an online search. The rest come from good old-fashioned word of mouth. When someone is dealing with unwanted hair, they either start by Googling a solution or turning to friends and family for recommendations.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
We’ve found that our clients enjoy hearing from us through email. We don’t use our emails to push products or services, instead, we focus on sharing helpful tips, client stories, and educational content about electrolysis and related topics. Every message is very short, friendly, and designed to be read in under a minute. We’ve had many clients tell us they look forward to our emails, which has been a great way to stay connected and build that brand loyalty.
