We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hefty Lefty Yungface a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hefty Lefty, thanks for joining us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
Both of us being artists we have felt that we’ve always had a place to give understanding to the misunderstood. Our lives have been a canvas to show people how to grow stronger from mental health issues and give the voiceless a voice to express themselves and connect to our message. Both of us come from two completely different backgrounds so we mold different struggles and successes to make the best music possible. People jump to conclusions about our roles and message without listening to our craft. We want people to understand that if you’re different it’s ok for everyone to accept that.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
YungFace- I was introduced to music at a very young age. My family was full of musicians and I was absorbing it all since I was three years old. One of my favorite artists growing up was Luther Van Dross and I got into creative writing and production early in my career. I came across several opportunities and took my craft to another level. I provide lyricism., pre and post production analysis with mixing and mastering/publishing. My music feeds people by teaching them to be unapologetic about themselves and to be beautiful in who they are. I just want my fans and potential fans to be real, and I’m going to give them same with or without music.
Hefty Lefty- My love of hip hop grew when I lived in Fayetteville North Carolina being immersed in diversity of sound in hip hop specifically. I connected with Face and we combined our different backgrounds into our unique sound today.. I truly believe in giving people strength to pursue their passions and develop growth within themselves. I just want fans and potential fans to take even one sentence of my writing and use it to improve and reach their potential.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For us after hours of perfecting our craft when something comes to life from our mind whether it’s our bars or sonically is by far the most rewarding. We do this because we love it and I our passion drives us to connect our craft to as many people as possible.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
We have a great story that we always reflect on when we had to cut open a change jar where we needed just enough money to eat while we were creating our sound. We shook every coin out of that thing! We always worked toward our goals in the midst of tribulations.
