We were lucky to catch up with Heena Khan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Heena, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The idea to start International Makeup came up with mere frustration. I was tired of watching youtube videos and people having items I was longing for in my vanity & wanted to have those. Then I thought, may be, other people feel that too. Hence I started International Makeup with a goal to get all the items from US & UK delivered at your doorstep without you having to go through the hassle of customs, shipping, clearance or ordering!
Heena, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started International Makeup in 2015 only on Instagram & we used to take orders on Instagram DMs & WhatsApp. Then, when we reached a larger audience, it was almost impossible to meet the customers needs just through WhatsApps, so we started our website www.internationalmakeup.in in 2018. After a successful run in the industry, we also started our own brand Henaa Hainaa Beauty in 2017. It’s been a few years in the industry & we can proudly say, that every purchase made at HHB has had it’s repeats & we have never had a single negative feedback yet. Dedicated to newness at lightning speed, we imagine, develop, test and ship all under one roof. We pride ourselves on being cruelty-free, wallet-friendly, and keeping up with the trends as much as we can being a small brand.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Three words, Word of mouth. If you fulfill your orders on time providing the best customer support, your client will get in 2 more clients & that will definitely grow your clientele. Providing a mediocre service is not the way to go. There has to be something special about you and your store that a client not only comes back but comes with another 3.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Work like you’re one of them & don’t behave like a boss. Be a leader, not bossy. Being a leader & being bossy are two different things in my opinion. A leader walks with the team, taking everyone forward. Being bossy will take you nowhere as your employes are already fed up with your attitude.
