Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hector Maradiaga. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Hector thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Yes, we are big on Data. Being in the holistic wellness, and fitness space there is a lot of confusion going on. Consumers are sold on miracle outcomes and practitioners, coaches and other professionals claim that they have the next best thing. What they don’t have is DATA ! We collect over 1 million data points per client per engagement and use that data to create a health/longevity strategy and intervention. At this point we are one of the, if not the largest aggregators of human performance data in the country.
There’s not BS or opinions on our end and it’s why we can deliver a bespoke health program with remarkable outcomes.
In essence we have bridged the gap between holistic wellness, modern medicine and fitness through data.
A majority of our clients say we do voodoo because of the crazy outcomes we deliver, it’s just science coupled with an obsessions in data and love for what we do.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I first started studying engineering to help build and expand my father’s business, he’s an electrical contractor. This was during the 2008 financial crash; seeing everyone in the construction industry so stressed and losing everything made me rethink what I really wanted to do. In my 9th grade leadership class as a journal entry I wrote that I wanted to work with extreme sports athletes and help them get better and stay healthy, 20 years later we work with some of the best athletes, founders, entrepreneurs in the world!
I took a deep dive into exercise physiology and in 2012 started working for a gym called the Downtown Athletic club, not too long after I was in a hybrid director role for the training department. I believed that we needed to do better for our members and started doing evaluations on each member, selling focused programs and distributing the work amongst the team of coaches we had. During that time I wanted to do my own thing, over coffee with the business developer he asked me “What do you want to Her?” I replied by saying “I want to help people not just for today, not just for tomorrow, but forever” he replied by saying “To Infinity huh”, that was the birth of our organizations name – Infinity Sports Institute.
It took 5 years from that moment to start the R&D Project that was our HeadQuarters. The task at hand was to prove that all these business vertical can work together seamlessly and become scalable. We built the only true sports science lab available to the public, offered a state of the art training space, rehab and recovery along with a complete medical team. We became a true one stop shop for longevity and health optimization. Now from 2016-2020 I was the active COO of Physical Therapy Now, one of the first physical therapy franchises in the country. This experience allowed to fully understand medical business, and how to scale a brick and mortar organization, we went from 0 locations to 42 territories by the time I stepped down,.
In 2015 one of my mentors told me “look at the brain” after sharing my concerns on athletic injuries and individuals with chronic pain. That took me down the rabbit hole of neurophysiology and functional medicine. I never understood something so clearly in my life. I studied, consumed and invested so much in these spaces. During my learning and practice I met some of the most incredible and professionals that I got a chance to call mentors. Ive seen people not being able to walk for years walk within minutes. I know, it sounds like a ton of magical bs, but let me tell you it’s not, it’s science. I became obsessed with conquering chronic pain and we did, my nickname became the Wizard because of the “magic” “voodoo” people where experiencing. We gave the hopeless hope and completely obliterated pain from their lives. Neuroscience, Neurophysiology, Pain Science, Functional Medicine and technology are at the core of what we do at Infinity Sports Institute.
Our mission at infinity is to create a paradigm shift in health by providing clarity and transparency to not only the consumer but the practitioner through accurate and live data. We have helped some of the most prolific NFL athletes increase their longevity and performance on and off the field as well as some of the most powerful entrepreneurs in the world. This brings me a lot of pride and joy as its what I had dreamed of since I was 13 years old.
We’re now in the midle of a cap raise as we are expanding our sports science labs and creating a robust digital platform for our clients. About 50% of clients are actually digital and found all across the globe.
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
In the spring of 2014 I had met one of my mentors, he owned a few physical therapy practices and medical business. He heard we wanted to open a space and told me to start out of one of his PT practices. At that time I was 23 years old and figured hey, our clients value our services Im sure they won’t mind the change of location. The big problem with that thought was that we had started Infinity out of the Downtown Athletic Club, in downtown Miami, and this new location was in Doral 7.5 miles away!
Clients only went that far for a couple of months. We lost every single client we had. I lost everything, financial ruin. But I went in to the office everyday working on financial models, proformas and strategies we would need for opening a million dollar facility. I looked for mentors and focused on sharpening my skills as will as building a remarkable service.
10 years later we are still here!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
This is simple. Focus on becoming the best version of yourself, sounds cliche but it’s true. We have a company Motto “Nothing But The Best”, we are always going to give nothing but the best of us at all times. Now we may fall short, but being the best allows us to be hyper self aware and correct.
Now for a more technical answer; our service and outcomes are second to none. The combination of Neurophysiology, neuroscience , pain science and functional medicine with technology and data has allowed us to deliver miracle like outcomes. That has set us so far apart of the competition.
Secondly it is our price point, if we where selling cars we would be selling super cars. Im not ashamed to say that our target market is beyond the 1%. Now, you cant just be expensive, you have to deliver outcomes, and we have the data to prove it. We are sitting on over 1.5 billion data points and thousands of lives impacted. We are not telling you we are good at what we do, the Data will tell you we are the best.
